Final Thoughts on the “BH90210” Reboot on Fox: Fun Nostalgia Served at the Peach Pit

So of course my favorite zip code will always be 90210, but I had some mixed feelings going into the premiere of the reboot.  After watching all six episodes, I am happy that I stuck it out because although the reboot was different than I had expected, it provided us with some fun nostalgia while giving us a different take on reboots.

Beverly Hills, 90210 is one of my favorite series of all time and I am a proud owner of the entire DVD set!

90210 dvd set

If you do attempt a re-watch of the original show (and why wouldn’t you), I do recommend to space it out because there are so many episodes.  Remember when this show actually gave us summer episodes? So much fun, but it’s a huge time investment!

When I heard about the reboot, I guess I was initially under the impression that it would follow our favorite characters in the future, so I was slightly disappointed when I discovered that it would actually be a sort of reality/drama/parody following the actors as they attempt to get a reboot of their show off the ground.

Sounds complicated?  It sort of was, but I’m glad that I continued watching because once I got over that initial shock, I was pleasantly surprised with what came next.  Please note some spoilers are ahead.

What I liked…

The flashbacks and dream sequences.

Each episode featured a fun take on a flashback, giving 90210 fans everywhere a lot of Easter eggs, throwing it back to some of our favorite episodes.  For example, I loved seeing Steve and Andrea meeting up at the Peach Pit and asking if they could exchange an egg (throwback to episode U4EA).

We also got to see Jennie dreaming about being Kelly Taylor in the hallways, the girls re-creating their “Addicted to Clothes” group, Steve mentioning the Legacy Key, and David Silver performing “Forever,” which I surprisingly still know all the words to.  Don’t judge!

These Easter eggs and flashback/dream sequences were genius and they kept me invested throughout the entire show.  I mean, that’s why we are watching, right?  Because we’re fans!  So this was very much appreciated!

The tasteful tribute to Luke Perry was perfect.

It wasn’t over-the-top, but it was done seamlessly, as the cast made a toast to Luke in the series premiere.  At the end of the episode, Jennie and Tori watch Luke and Jason’s scene from the start of the show, which brought tears to my eyes.

Welcome to paradise 1

Fun guest-stars.

I won’t spoil them all, but let’s just say that I was pleasantly surprised with some of the guest stars and I was super excited to see them all back in action.  I personally would have liked to see a few other cast members join in on the fun, but I appreciate that we were able to get a few surprises and twists here and there!

What I didn’t like…

Some of the real life drama just didn’t work.

Sure, it was kind of fun to see Brian Austin Green married to a pop singer and some unresolved chemistry between Jennie and Jason, but it also just sort of confused me since this drama is loosely based on their real lives.  I appreciate that the cast was willing to make fun of themselves, but sometimes I just wanted to leave that drama behind and focus more on the nostalgia and some of the twists.

For example, the stalker mystery and the creepy stuff with Brian’s assistant was entertaining enough, so I didn’t necessarily need the rest of the extra drama on top of it.  Perhaps that just comes down to personal preference, however.

So am I in or out?

BH90210 Fox Cast

The 90210 fan in me is in because I would pretty much watch anything with this cast.  Overall, I was thoroughly entertained with the reboot, but I also wanted a lot more.  I guess I just saw so much potential and I wanted to see other things explored more, but I am completely supportive of this show.

BH90210 was the perfect summer show to binge-watch, reminding me why I fell in love with Beverly Hills, 90210 in the first place!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on BH90210 in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

What to Watch on TV this Fall: The 2019 Fall TV Premieres I am Most Excited For!

Greetings TV Fans!  As we enter into the Fall season, some of our favorite shows will be returning with new episodes and we can also look forward to some brand new shows as well that seem to have a lot of potential.  Looking to find out when they all start and where to watch them?  You came to the right place!

While some of our favorite returning shows already have 2019 premiere dates announced, others are still giving out a late 2019/early 2020 vague response, but it looks like we have plenty of shows to watch in the meantime!  Without any further delay, the 2019 Fall TV premieres I am most looking forward to are:

American Horror Story: 1984 (Season 9)

AHS 9 10 1

Premiere date: Wednesday, September 18th 2019

Where to watch: FX Network

Welcome to Camp Redwood!  Who doesn’t love the 80’s?  The ninth season of AHS looks like it is going to provide us with a lot of slasher fun and nostalgia.  While Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will not be on the newest season (sigh), we do have some fan-favorites returning, including the wonderful and brilliant Emma Roberts.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 14)

Premiere date: Wednesday, September 25th 2019

Where to watch: FXX Network

I mean, who doesn’t love laughing along with our friends from Paddy’s Pub?  The gang is back and I can’t wait to see what schemes they come up with next.  After Mac’s moving dance performance, anything is possible!  Perhaps another Charlie Kelly episode?  There is plenty of Charlie work to go around after all.

Evil (New Series)

Evil 9 10

Premiere date: Thursday, September 26th 2019

Where to watch: CBS

I don’t know about you, but I am definitely down to watch another show with Luke Cage’s Mike Colter, but it looks like he will be trading in his super hero strength in order to investigate demonic possessions and other supernatural threats.  I’m in!

Light as a Feather (Season 2, Part 2, episodes 9-16)

Light as a feather 9 10

Premiere date: Friday, October 4th 2019

Where to watch: Hulu

Light as a feather…stiff as a board.  I never get tired of hearing that and I’m hoping that the second half of season 2 can bounce back and provide us with some spooky haunting fun.  This show is extremely addicting and there are constantly new twists and turns so I personally can’t wait!

The Walking Dead (Season 10)

TWD 9 10 1

Premiere date: Sunday, October 6th 2019

Where to watch: AMC

It’s time to silence the Whisperers once and for all, but what threats will emerge next?  As we approach season 10, we know that this will be Michonne’s last season, but what does that mean for her character?  I can’t wait to find out!

Riverdale (Season 4)

Riverdale 9 10

Premiere date: Wednesday, October 9th 2019

Where to watch: The CW

After that cliffhanger ending in season 3, it looks like we will have a new mystery to dive into for season 4, which centers around one of our main characters.  What secrets will emerge next?  Stay tuned!

Nancy Drew (New Series)

Premiere date: Wednesday, October 9th 2019

Where to watch: The CW

It looks like I will be busy on Wednesday nights indefinitely!  Nancy Drew is one of my favorite book series of all time and this new series looks like a dark and grown up version, giving me some Riverdale and Pretty Little Liars feels right off the bat.  I’m in 100 percent!

Supernatural (Season 15) *Final Season*

SPN 9 10

Premiere date: Thursday, October 10th 2019

Where to watch: The CW

How will it all end for the Winchesters?  After that cliffhanger ending in season 14, it looks like our favorite hunters have a lot of work to do, but luckily they have some backup in our favorite angel, Castiel.  What can we expect for the final season?  I’m not sure, but I would love to see some fun nostalgia sprinkled in with some returning guest stars.  It will be beyond difficult to say goodbye, but I know that the series will end the way it is intended to and I’m looking forward to watching these final adventures with Sam and Dean.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

Breaking Bad 9 10

Premiere date: Friday, October 11th 2019

Where to watch: Netflix (to be released at a later date on AMC)

So I initially didn’t think to put this on the list since it is technically a movie, but how can I leave out one of my favorite series of all time?!  Jesse Pinkman is back and Breaking Bad fans everywhere can rejoice, as we finally get to find out what happens next in the story!

The Purge (Season 2)

The purge 9 10 1

Premiere date: Tuesday, October 15th 2019

Where to watch: USA Network

What happens on Purge Night doesn’t necessarily stay on Purge Night.  I love The Purge movies and when I first heard about the television series last year, I really didn’t go into it with high expectations.  Well I was in for a huge surprise, as this show became one of my favorite series of the year.  It’s fast paced, surprising, and a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see what happens in season 2 as we follow a brand new group of characters.  Are you ready, citizens?

Castle Rock (Season 2)

Castle rock 9 10

Premiere date: Wednesday, October 23rd 2019

Where to watch: Hulu

The Stephen King anthology series was another bone-chilling and haunting surprise for me last year and I have been waiting quite some time for a premiere date announcement for season 2.  Well it looks like we are in luck, as new episodes will return right before Halloween, which certainly seems fitting.  It looks like we will follow a new story and a new group of characters in the mysterious town of Castle Rock, but I am hoping to get some Easter eggs or connections to season one.  We shall see!

Shameless (Season 10)

Shameless 9 10

Premiere date: Sunday, November 10th 2019

Where to watch: Showtime

We said goodbye to fan-favorite, Fiona Gallagher for good last season, but can season 10 keep the Gallaghers relevant?  Let’s hope so!  While I am disappointed that Fiona will no longer be on the show, it looks like we will need to turn our attention to Lip, especially now that he is going to be a father.  The laughs never fail on one of my favorite series of all time and I can’t wait to see what the Gallagher family does next!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to comment on any TV Premieres that YOU are looking forward to watching in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 13: “Hard to get Bigger than That”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 13, I realized that “together we can get from yesterday to tomorrow,” but what happens when that concept of togetherness starts to break off into separate pieces?  Sometimes we are forced to stand alone in order to protect what we believe in, but is it truly possible to keep that sense of togetherness going when there is always something or someone threatening its potential?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Leave What You Don’t,” we get a glimpse into Logan’s past, while Sarah tries to make things right in the present.  Meanwhile, Alicia and Victor attempt to help a girl in need and end up getting some unexpected assistance.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 13 are:

5

“Maybe you’ll actually remember what you used to believe.”

In this episode, we learn a little bit more about Logan and take a peek into his past.  We witness Logan as “Desert Fox” trying to reach Clayton (Polar Bear) when a young woman asks for help at a truck stop by mile marker 65.  Clayton doesn’t respond and Logan does his best to make it there in time, but his truck runs out of gas.  Logan goes the rest of the way on foot and tries to keep the woman over the Walkie hopeful, but he is forced to listen to her get torn apart by walkers and is too late.

Logan is devastated and it’s clear that this is the moment that broke his vision about helping others.  When Logan tries to take over the oil field in the present, he tells Luciana that he does remember, but that it’s all about survival of the fittest now.  I thought this glimpse into Logan’s past was necessary, but we still didn’t get a concrete answer on what his new vision is now, telling Luciana and the others that they wouldn’t be able to handle it and now I’m not sure we’ll ever know…

4

“What’s the point of having gas if we can’t use it to help people?”

A valid point for sure, Alicia, but I have to say that Alicia is getting quite good at painting those trees and I happen to like the phoenix design as well!  Alicia and Victor get a call over the radio from a woman trapped in a truck stop.  When they try to reach out to some of their friends, it seems like everyone is off doing their own thing, which means we probably have some more filler episodes coming our way to fill in those blanks…except we are getting pretty close to the end of the season.

Either way, Alicia and Victor try to make it in time, but will they be able to save her?

3

“I figured I should pay it forward.”

After Alicia and Victor run out of gas, it looks like the girl at the truck stop is not going to make it, but luckily Wes is there to save the day!  Yay!  Remember Wes?

Wes from Fear the Walking Dead AMC

Well it looks like Alicia had an impact over him after all, as he hears the call over the radio and tries to do his part.  Oh and he likes the phoenix too so it looks like there may be some sparks flying between him and Alicia.

I was really interested in Wes’s character when we first met him and I’m happy that he had a change of heart.  I’m looking forward to finding out more about him and it looks like the kindness of the group is spreading, but is it enough?

2

“We help people.  They help people.  Hard to get bigger than that.”

So I’ve been a fan of Sarah for a while now and she is always the one to break the tension with some humor, but she really showed us a different side in this episode and I thought it was really important for her character development.  Logan reminded Sarah that she was the reason why this all happened because she left Clayton to die when she stole his truck and that’s why he never answered Logan on the radio.

Logan and Sarah Fear the Walking Dead AMC
Images courtesy of AMC

Sarah explains that she thinks about that every single day and she truly tries to make amends when she goes back to save Logan when the walkers start crashing the party, literally falling right into the oil fields one by one.  While I love Sarah’s humor, I really enjoyed seeing this other side of her and it honestly made me like her that much more.

1

“That sounds like a deal to me…”

Everything comes full circle for Logan when he realizes that the girl Alicia is trying to help is also at the truck stop at mile marker 65 and he thinks that the only answer is for her to use the one bullet left in his gun to end it all.  When Wes shows up to save her, Logan has a change of heart and I was starting to think that everyone was going to start singing Kumbaya or something.  Fear not; however, as we do get a necessary twist.

Logan tells his people to put his guns down, but he gets shot and killed, along with the rest of his followers.  We meet a new group, the Pioneers, led by a woman named Virgina…although apparently you can call her Ginny.  Logan encountered these ladies on horseback in his past, but they show up with perfect timing to shake things up.  Virginia explains that Logan was no longer essential and says that she has been paying attention to what our group has been doing, revealing that she thinks they can help each other.

Before things get too crazy, Luciana volunteers as tribute and offers to stay behind to make the gas for them.  So who are the Pioneers?

I’m not really sure what to make of this new group of villains just yet, but it’s about time something happened.  What are YOUR theories on this new group?  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Fear the Walking Dead in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Affair” season 5 episode 3: “You Are Allowed To Say No”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s The Affair season 5 episode 3, I realized that sometimes it takes “an enormous fall from grace” in order for someone to come full circle.  But what if you can’t see this redemption for yourself?  Does that mean that it is incomplete or is it possible that you went right back to where you started without learning anything?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In tonight’s episode, “503,” it seems like Noah is on a new path, but his obsession over Helen continues to cloud his better judgment.  Meanwhile, Helen grows closer to Sasha and Joanie meets a stranger, revealing some darkness within her.  My top 5 moments from The Affair season 5 episode 3 are:

5

“You remind me of your mother…”

Part one of the episode follows Noah and we witness him having dinner with his daughter, Whitney.  Whitney seems stressed and beyond exhausted, but Noah is concerned that perhaps she is jumping into a wedding with Colin a little bit too quickly, especially since his green card depends on it.  Noah knows that his daughter will not listen to him, hoping to convince Helen to talk some sense into her, but I’m interested to find out more about Whitney’s story.

Whitney has been on and off the show so I’m hoping to see some character growth and development for her, but I’m worried about whether or not Colin has true feelings for her.  I’m also wondering if Noah will finally be able to repair the damage between them or if he will always feel like an outsider to his own family?

4

“How’s that working out?”

During Noah’s part of the episode, he receives a call from Janelle.  We learn that Janelle never returned his phone calls after Vic’s funeral and that they haven’t spoken in three months.  Noah agrees to meet Janelle in person so she can explain things and he discovers that she is running for the school board and is back together with Carl.

Janelle wants to make sure that Noah will keep things quiet about their past relationship since it could damage her campaign and I’m wondering if we will see more of this developed.  I’m not surprised that things didn’t work out between Noah and Janelle, but I also want to keep her relevant on the show so some secrets may have to be leaked in order for this happen.

3

“You are one sick bitch…”

Part three of the episode follows Joanie and once again, we only get a few minutes to follow her, which is starting to irritate me slightly.  I’m really hoping that these little bits and pieces will lead to a much bigger part of the puzzle because I feel like Joanie deserves a lot more screen time, but I am trusting in executive producer, Sarah Treem to seamlessly connect everything in a satisfying way.  I guess that just goes to show that I am very invested in Joanie’s character and I want to know more!

Joanie sits at a bar in Montauk and lies about having children to the bartender, asking him if she looks like someone who would have kids.  The two go back to Cole’s old house and have rough sex, as Joanie proceeds to slap the stranger in order to feel something.

There is clearly darkness and some kind of void inside of Joanie, but I’m worried about this dark path that she is headed on.  I’m really hoping that discovering the truth behind Alison’s death will give her some kind of peace of mind because it looks like she is beyond damaged and I want so much more for Alison and Cole’s daughter.

2

“You’re very territorial.”

In the beginning of the episode, Noah is doing an interview for Vanity Fair and the journalist asks him, “Would you say that the redemption of Noah Solloway is complete?”  Noah is unable to answer this, proving once again that perhaps Noah doesn’t have a clue about who he really is or who he is meant to be.

Later in the episode, Noah becomes obsessed when watching Helen and Sasha, reminding me of the crazy Noah we saw in season 3 after he was in prison.  I didn’t like this Noah and I don’t want to see him return, but I think that Sasha was on to something.  Sasha tells Noah that he can’t see himself and that’s why he doesn’t understand his character.  But I have to wonder if Noah will ever be able to truly see himself or if he will forever be trapped in the past, wallowing in self-pity, unable to ever be satisfied?

1

“You don’t have to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.”

Sasha has some pretty great lines in this episode and I think that he may be the unlikely voice of reason for both Noah and Helen.  However, I still don’t completely trust him.  Helen and Sasha’s relationship has advanced to the next level, but is Helen truly ready to move on?  Helen has a lot to deal with, including the news of her father’s declining health and allowing Sierra and baby Eddie to stay under her roof.  Sasha reminds Helen that she can say no, but it seems like Helen may be using Sasha as an escape.

I honestly just want Helen to find some kind of happiness, but I’m not sure that Sasha is her knight in shining armor.  Perhaps Helen doesn’t need a boyfriend anymore as she mentioned to her son earlier.  I just think she needs to truly love and appreciate herself, but it will be interesting to see what happens next now that Sasha has gained more of her trust.

The Affair still has me hooked and I can’t wait to find out more!  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on The Affair below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

My performance of the week ending 9/7/19 on TV goes to…

Hilary Duff as Kelsey Peters on TV Land’s Younger.  Even though the show mostly centers around Liza, I was beyond impressed with Hilary Duff’s performance in season 6 and I think that our girl Kelsey is finally showing the world what she is truly made of.  She’s more than a SHero.  She’s an inspiration and she is proving to be a strong woman who can compete with anyone in the business world.  Please note some spoilers are ahead if you are not up-to-date on the series.

Even when it seems like things are not working in her favor, Kelsey manages to turn it around somehow, proving that she is extremely capable and hard-working.  She refuses to let defeat creep over her and she always has another backup plan, preparing for whatever comes next.

I have always loved the friendship between Liza and Kelsey, along with the budding relationship between Kelsey and Zane, but I really thought that Kelsey finally started to find her own identity separate from these relationships in season 6, which makes her much more than a supporting character.

Kelsey has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders in season 6, taking on the role of publisher of Millennial, but she continues to make impressive decisions.  Even after her social media mistake, she still bounces back and makes the courageous decision to leave the job that she has come to love, taking a huge leap of faith to discover her next path.

Ultimately, it looks like Kelsey’s path will actually lead her right back to Millennial in a different role and I have to say that I am relieved!  Kelsey has worked so hard and she deserves recognition for her efforts and I think that Charles is really trying his best to make her feel like she is part of the Millennial family.

What’s next for Kelsey?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like Kelsey will have a new position at Millennial to tackle and she is also truly opening herself up to Zane, so it will be interesting to see what’s next for one of my favorite ships as well.  I have been a fan of the series for a while now, but sometimes characters with the most potential lose out on screen time.

Each episode is only about 30 minutes, which doesn’t give us a lot of time to play with, but I think that the development and growth of Kelsey’s character has been so important for the series and I am a Kelsey Peters fan for life.  I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Younger” season 6 episode 12: “That’s A Lot to Think About!”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching TV Land’s Younger season 6 episode 12 season finale, I realized that “we have to make choices in life,” but it seems like Liza is not having a super easy time with this and things are only going to get more complicated for her.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Forever,” Liza’s two worlds collide again, when she is left with an overwhelming choice that may change her life forever.  Meanwhile, Kelsey contemplates her next steps and Diana and Enzo get married.  My top 5 moments from the Younger season 6 episode 12 season finale are:

5

“I’m taking a leap and the net will appear.”

Well maybe, “but what if the sidewalk appears first,” as Liza points out to her good friend, Kelsey, who decides to move forward with her decision to leave Millennial.  Both Charles and Liza try to convince Kelsey to change her mind, but they do respect her decision.  Kelsey is looking to start her own publishing company and even secures Quinn as an investor, which surprises everyone, but is this really the right move for our girl Kelsey?

4

“It’s Diana’s day.”

Even though Diana’s wedding mostly serves as the background for this jam-packed episode, Diana looks beyond gorgeous in her gown and I was so happy to see her and Enzo get married without that interesting ice sculpture on display.  Leave it to Maggie and Lauren to stir up just the right amount of trouble!  Either way, it was wonderful to see one of my favorite ships finally get their happily ever after and I can’t wait to see what happens next with them!

3

“Does this count as me reaching out?”

Kelsey is going through a lot and Zane tries to show his support, but he also gives Kelsey a reality check about starting her own publishing company, especially since he just went through this recently.  Zane tells Kelsey that he thought she was awesome in the way she handled everything, but he also doesn’t like that she bailed on him and reminds her that it will need to be her move if she wants to pursue their relationship in the future.

Luckily, it doesn’t take Kelsey too long to discover where her heart truly lies, as she holds Zane’s hand during Diana and Enzo’s wedding, letting Zane know that she’s ready to give their relationship a true chance.  I ship these two so much and I am really happy that they are going to keep things going!  Yay!

2

“I wouldn’t want anyone else to have it…”

After Infinitely 21 wants to use Liza’s tattoo design, Josh explains that he needs to get permission.  Liza initially tells him that it’s fine, but she quickly has a change of heart, flashing back to the day that Josh gave her that tattoo, realizing how unique and special it is to their past relationship.

Liza says, “It’s ours” and Josh seems to be pleased with her answer, recognizing that perhaps Liza has not truly moved on just yet.  A tattoo is forever, but is Liza ready to finally trust her instincts and go with her heart?  Well…it’s about to get even more complicated!

“Will you marry me?”

Charliza finally gets a moment alone during the season finale and it’s a very big moment, as Charles explains that perhaps the family trip was not a great idea and asks Liza to marry him.  Before Liza can answer, Kelsey interrupts and says, “I do” to Charles’s offer to make her a member of the board, giving her a stake in the company.  The bridal party splits these two apart and we are left seeing Liza and Charles looking at one another across the dance floor.

I mean, talk about a cliffhanger!  What will Liza say?  Is she ready to finally make a choice?  I can’t wait to find out and I’m curious to learn whether Team Charles or Team Josh will be victorious.  Although, perhaps Liza will choose herself during this impossible choice to make things even more dramatic, but we will have to wait until 2020 to find out!!!!!!  Stay tuned Younger fans!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Younger below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 12: “Don’t Lose Your People”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 12, I realized that you should never underestimate the power of faith.  Even if it may take a while to find it again, or at all, it’s important to hold on to it once you do.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Ner Tamid,” Charlie crosses paths with a rabbi in need of help.  Meanwhile, John and June make me think twice about balance beams, and Sarah and Dwight run into some trouble with Logan’s gang.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 12 are:

5

“Do you answer every question with a question?”

In this episode, we learn that Charlie got separated from the group, but apparently she actually ran away.  She crosses paths with Rabbi Jacob, who takes out some walkers surrounding her in a car and the two seem to hit it off right away.  Charlie starts to wonder if this is her true path or purpose and thinks that the synagogue may be the perfect new home for the group, but it is a little crowded right now with the walker congregation.

Rabbi Jacob Kessner, played by Peter Jacobson, is continuing to honor tradition as much as he can, but he also seems to be pretty skilled at taking out walkers so he could be an important addition to the group.  I’m looking forward to seeing what else he will bring to the table.

4

“We’re different.”

John and June get some screen time in this episode and we witness a bonding moment between June and Charlie.  June understands where Charlie is coming from and she knows what it is like to run away from everyone and everything, but she also reminds Charlie that they are both different now.  I think that June has really stepped in as a mother figure for Charlie and I thought this moment was really important for both of them.

They both have come so far and yet they still have that instinct to run sometimes.  Maybe that will never really go away, but I’m hoping they both realize that they can run toward something, rather than away from it, because they are an integral part of the group.

3

“They don’t do anything by accident.”

Sarah and Dwight bond over a cold one and it looks like this may be the start of a beautiful friendship.  Logan’s men break up the party; however, and the man Dwight let go puts his two cents in, but what is the real goal here?  Logan’s men leave when the tank shows up, but Dwight reminds Sarah that they don’t seem like the type to do anything by accident and it looks like he’s on to something.  Everything is apparently all clear so it looks this was just a diversion, as Logan has his eye on the prize.  But now that he does, what is his real end game here?

2

“We’re not gonna make it.”

John and June had me on the edge of my seat during this one after Rabbi Jacob’s walker congregation got out, using ladders to walk above them.  Somehow they both manage to scrape by, but end up trapped on top of one of the cars.  Charlie realizes that it’s time to give this place up, even though she is clearly already attached to it.  Rabbi Jacob and Charlie create a sound diversion to lure the walkers away, locking them inside, and all of our favorite characters manage to make it out of this one alive.

I understand where Charlie is coming from because she is tired of moving from place to place and is really trying to make some place a home, but I started thinking back to Madison’s own dream of making the stadium into a home and how devastating that was when that dream was shattered.  Will our group be able to settle down or are they better on the road?

1

“Don’t lose your people.”

Rabbi Jacob reveals to Charlie that he lost his faith a long time ago and thinks that he is alive because he left.  He reminds Charlie not to lose her own people, but I thought that this was an important and revealing moment for Rabbi Jacob.  They discuss the importance of finding one’s faith, even if it has been lost on more than one occasion, which had an uplifting and positive message.  Perhaps Charlie was meant to go there, simply to help Rabbi Jacob believe again.

We have met some interesting new characters this season and I would like to see more of them, but I’m also starting to wonder when something really big is going to happen.  I feel like we have been coasting by for a while and I want Logan to truly make a dent here, otherwise some of these story-lines may start to feel stale after a while.

What are YOUR theories on Logan and his plan?  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Fear the Walking Dead in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Affair” season 5 episode 2: “Be A Little Selfish”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s The Affair season 5 episode 2, I realized that sometimes we have to take some much needed time for ourselves.  A lot of times it may seem routine or necessary to deflect our own feelings and worry about what is going on around us, but you also don’t want to lose who you are in the process.  Perhaps it’s more about finding a balance, but taking care of ourselves can help more than we realize.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In tonight’s episode, “502,” we see things from Janelle’s point of view, reminding us that Noah really is completely oblivious and off in his own world sometimes.  Meanwhile, Helen bonds with Sasha and Joanie takes a work trip up to Montauk, but will she find the answers she is looking for?  My top 5 moments from The Affair season 5 episode 2 are:

5

“Girlfriend is a strong word.”

Part one of the episode follows Janelle, as we see things from her perspective during Vic’s funeral, which really helped fill in some blanks since we know that Janelle did disappear several times.  I am a big fan of Sanaa Lathan and I love the character of Janelle.  She is strong, opinionated, and brilliant.

Noah says that he can’t wait for Janelle to get to know his family, but the whole situation is slightly awkward and a bit overwhelming, especially when Helen’s father mistakes her for the help  and Noah’s daughter, Whitney, points out how she is super excited that her dad is dating a woman of color.

Janelle does her best to deal with these inappropriate side comments with grace, but you have to wonder how long her relationship will last with Noah?  I personally think that Janelle is out of his league, but I am trying to keep an open mind here.

4

“Are you always this honest?”

Three months later, we see things from Helen’s perspective, as she agrees to go on set with Noah and Whitney.  Noah was under the impression that they were shooting a harmless family scene, but Helen actually has to watch a reenactment of the moment when she found Alison’s bra in her drawer.  Helen is clearly going through a lot after Vic’s death and is speaking her mind even more than usual.

She is not intimidated when meeting celebrity, Sasha Mann, and she points out that the character based on Helen should really be more of a bitch.  Sasha appreciates her feedback and thinks that Helen is quite extraordinary and I have to say that I agree!

3

“Montauk…”

I was worried that we were not going to get a chance to check in with Joanie at all during this episode, but we do get some time with her.  Joanie is seen throwing up in the toilet, but wants to cover it up.  Does this mean that she is pregnant or is something else going on here?  Joanie is just as guarded and secretive as her mother and she has been trying to keep busy with work.  Joanie accepts an assignment out in Montauk and tells her husband that she will be staying in her dad’s old house.

When Joanie arrives, Montauk seems like a ghost town and her fingerprint is not recognized at the house.  Joanie decides to break in and it looks like she is about to discover even more ghosts as this story unfolds, but will she be able to uncover the truth behind Alison’s murder?  I’m also curious to find out more about how Cole died and I am very interested in this story-line, as this keeps the story of Alison and Cole alive for us.

2

“Don’t come from within.  Come from above.”

After Janelle discovers that she is now being offered a co-principal job with a young white male teacher with very little experience, she decides to go visit her ex-husband, Carl, to get some legal advice.  Janelle will have to take a pay cut and Joel will be the face of the position, while she will get stuck doing all of the administrative work, which hardly seems fair.  Carl initially presents her the facts, but it’s clear that Janelle is looking for some real support here.

Janelle says that she doesn’t play well with others, but I honestly like that about her.  She tells it how it is and sometimes you need that in order to maintain structure and she has been trying to create some real change within the school district, which is pretty much what she was hired to do.  Carl presents her with an alternative idea and tells her to run for the school board, which would really shake things up.

This would certainly be a huge change for Janelle, but she also decides to pick things up with Carl romantically again, which could have some interesting consequences.  I already assumed that her relationship would not last very long with Noah, but is she ready to jump back into a failed marriage?  We’ll have to wait and see, but I hope we get some more screen time for Janelle because she is fantastic.

1

“Live now for us both.”

Helen reluctantly agrees to meet with Sasha Mann and she even lets loose to play some basketball, but things go south when Sasha hits her right in the face with the ball.  Helen feels sick and has a slight breakdown and Sasha actually handles it quite well and tries to support Helen.  Helen explains that she wasn’t prepared for how permanent death is, opening up a little bit here.

When Helen returns home, she finally plays Vic’s recording for her and he tells her to “be a little selfish,” understanding that Helen is probably keeping her grief to herself to stay strong for everyone around her, but that she needs to be happy and enjoy life for the both of them.

I thought this was an important moment for Helen and Vic really touched on some of the points I made in last week’s blog about Helen enjoying life so I was happy to hear him say something similar.  Is Helen finally ready to move on?  Let’s hope so!

The ladies of The Affair are certainly holding my undivided attention as we sink deeper back into the ocean.  Stay tuned!

My Ship of the week ending 8/31/19 on TV goes to…

Justin and Jessica on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why season 3.  So normally when I do these posts, there is something really swoon-worthy, passionate, or epic between a ship and I fall head-over-heels in love with them, but I am honestly really conflicted about this ship, but I still think it is worth a mention and perhaps a deeper discussion.  Please note major spoilers have been left out for your convenience.

In a lot of ways, Justin and Jessica have a toxic relationship and I didn’t really want to root for them after what was uncovered in season 1.  In season 3, Jessica is really finding her voice as a survivor and she is trying to get others to accept change, but she is also exploring her own sexual identity again, which is not easy to do.

Jessica knows that it is wrong to be with Justin because she initially wants to keep their relationship a secret.  That being said, these two have some beyond sexy moments in season 3 and it’s hard to ignore the passion that has been sparked between them.

As season 3 continues, Justin even starts to recognize that perhaps Jessica is better off without him.  Justin is an addict and they are both broken so this thought process actually makes sense to me, except perhaps throw in a little open honesty.  Jessica continues to stand by Justin’s side and tells him, “Your shit is my shit.”  Perhaps she could have chosen some other words here, but she gets her point across, reminding Justin that she has his back always and Justin would do anything for Jessica.

At the end of season 3, I was left wondering if this ship truly has the potential to make it and I’m honestly not sure.  I personally think that Justin needs to actually deal with his addiction and recover from that before he can even attempt to be in a relationship.  Jessica is strong and powerful, but she is also still broken in a lot of ways and will she every truly be able to get over the past when she looks at Justin?

What’s next for Justin and Jessica?  I’m honestly not sure what season 4 holds for these two, but I am trying to keep an open mind.  I guess what I actually ship here is the potential for something real in the future rather than the present state of their relationship.

Maybe it will never happen and maybe it’s not meant to, but I can’t ignore the chemistry and friendship between these two and they do have some really adorable moments together.  I just think that they both need to find out who they are apart…and if their paths cross again in the future and they are ready to give it a try, perhaps this can be the start of a beautiful relationship.

What are YOUR thoughts on Justin and Jessica?  Toxic and unstable or charming and sweet?

Stay tuned for a recognized Ship on TV each week!

My performance of the week ending 8/31/19 on TV goes to…

Maura Tierney as Helen Solloway on Showtime’s The Affair.  Helen has always been a fantastic supporting character on the series, but a lot of the attention has previously centered around Alison, Noah, and Cole. With the opening of the final season of the series, Alison and Cole are no longer on the show and I was worried that we would feel a void without them.

Fear not; however, as Maura Tierney reminded us just how compelling and real Helen can be and it’s about time she got her moment in the spotlight.  Please note some spoilers are ahead if you are not up-to-date on the series.  After watching the season 5 premiere, I was left in tears and then some.

Both Ruth Wilson and Joshua Jackson were able to bring tears out of me last year as well with their beyond heartbreaking performances, but there was something so incredibly real and honest about Maura Tierney’s portrayal of Helen in the premiere.  Grief is something that is not easily portrayed.  Sometimes it feels over-the-top and sometimes it feels disingenuous, but somehow my heart was completely breaking for Helen and that was mostly because of how well Maura Tierney performed here.

Helen is used to speaking her mind and she doesn’t care who she offends when she does, which is part of what makes me like her so much.  In fact, some of my absolute favorite moments featuring Helen involve her saying something blunt, but she always comes pretty close to the truth.  In season 4, Helen has this revealing conversation with Alison and I really stopped to think about what she said and how spot on she was with her advice.

When Noah tells Helen that she is resilient in the season 5 premiere, Helen tells him that she had to be because she didn’t have a choice.  But the truth is, Helen is more than resilient.  Through it all, she has been strong, loving, and funny.  She’s a mother of four and she has had to deal with so much after finding out about Vic’s illness, which would probably push anyone over the edge, but somehow Helen is able to keep going, refusing to give up.

Helen has had some hilarious moments on the show, singing loudly and drinking wine in her bedroom and getting pulled over with her foils still in her hair, but in the season 5 premiere, there is this moment of silence where Helen just simply lets go, allowing her thoughts to drift.  This moment of self-reflection is when Helen starts to truly contemplate what has happened and where she is in her life, which was an extremely powerful and heartbreaking scene to watch.

What’s next for Helen?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like she may have a new romantic interest in the near future who Noah will not approve of.  Even though it seems like there is still a connection between Noah and Helen, I feel like Helen is so above him at this point.  Noah doesn’t deserve Helen and I truly hope that she is able to find true happiness because she constantly puts others before her own needs and I just want her to experience a real moment for herself.  How will it all end?  I’m excited to find out and I can’t wait to see what Helen does next!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!
