Ranking your Favorite Male Performances on Television for 2018

Greetings TV Fans!  As the New Year quickly approaches, it really got me thinking about some of my absolute favorite male performances on television this past year.  Whether it was a moment of heroism, a sacrifice, or even a breaking point, these male actors went above and beyond to fully embrace their characters.  I laughed, I cried, and I cheered them on, as they continued to surprise us throughout the year.  It was difficult for me to narrow down my favorite male performances for 2018 because there were honestly so many and I didn’t think it was possible for me to choose my absolute favorite one, which is where you came in!

I ran a three round poll (randomized tournament style) on Twitter and asked for fans to cast their votes so that we can all decide who our favorite male performances are for the year.  Thank you so much for your participation and support, as the tournament was so much fun and actually really competitive!

Round One featured the following Male Performances on TV from 2018:

  • Joshua Jackson as Cole Lockhart from The Affair

After your votes, the following male actors moved on to Round Two:

  • Cole Sprouse
  • Cody Fern
  • Bruce Campbell
  • Jared Padalecki
  • Andrew Lincoln
  • Richard Harmon
  • Jensen Ackles

Please note:  Jared Padalecki & Andrew Lincoln tied in round one so they both got to move on to round two!

After your votes in Round Two, the following male actors moved on to the FINALS:

  • Richard Harmon
  • Jared Padalecki
  • Cody Fern

Honorable Mention:  I am actually really surprised that Andrew Lincoln did not make it into the finals, but I would like to give him a special shout out because his performance was amazing this past year on The Walking Dead.

After your votes in Round Three, the FINAL results are:

3rd place: Richard Harmon as John Murphy from The 100

When Kallie Bennett, a jaded teenage girl plagued by her alcoholic mother and her peers molded out of sheer bubble gum perfection, chases after Alice in Wonderland herself, she ends up lost in her own version of Wonderland, which forces her to face her utmost fears and introduces her to familiar characters with a dark twist. Among these characters is Ches, a gorgeous vampire with a conflicted conscience, who becomes Kallie’s guide and blossoming love interest. She also crosses paths with Queen Hartley, a manipulative witch who has the power to strip away one’s memories and imagination, which brings a bone chilling new meaning to “off with their heads.” In The Search for Alice, Kallie starts to realize that her Wonderland is just as frightening as her own reality and that she cannot always run away from her problems. She must figure out a way to defeat Queen Hartley and return home before it is too late, but she soon learns that escaping Wonderland means leaving Ches behind forever.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 9: “Happy Holidays”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 9, I realized that the holidays are about hope, love, giving, and family.  But what happens when you lose that hope?  Are you lost forever or is there a sliver of it still dimming in the dark?   Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Spear,” Michael gathers his army in Kansas City and Garth attempts to work undercover, but is in way over his head.  Meanwhile, Sam and Dean split up to try and track down weapons that will hurt Michael.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 9 mid-season finale are:

 5

“Cookietacular is the secret password.”

In the beginning of the episode, Jack and Castiel have a heartwarming talk and we learn that Sam and Dean do not know about Castiel’s deal with “The Empty.”  Castiel tries to explain to Jack that they don’t need that burden.  He further reveals that “this life may be a lot of things, but it’s rarely happy.”  However, on the bright side, they do have “Crunch Cookie Crunch,” which actually looks pretty appetizing.  Castiel may think he has a lot of time left, but we know that “The Empty” will not stay gone for long.  It seems like everyone on the show wants to protect someone else from knowing the truth, but perhaps some openness can allow our favorite characters to prepare for the worst in advance?

4

“You put the only weapon we have against Michael in the mail?”

Ketch calls in to well…catch up and to also fill the Winchester brothers in on the status of the egg, which is a weapon that can harm Michael.  Everyone is very short on time, but Ketch decided to put this important weapon in the mail.  The post office is closed for the holidays, which gives Sam and Jack a chance to track it down before it winds up in the wrong hands, but they quickly realize that Michael is one step ahead of them.  Jack is captured by Michael and Sam is injured, which puts everyone on edge, as they realize that they are running out of time.  So, maybe the mail was not such a great idea.  Just saying Ketch.

3

“I gotta be on the winning side.”

Garth is back and is working undercover to help Sam and Dean fight Michael, but perhaps he is in a little bit over his head.  Michael recognizes Garth, but allows him to “volunteer,” which means that he will need to take Michael’s amped-up archangel grace.  Garth initially thinks that he can fool Michael, but is forced to swallow every last drop.  Later on, Garth’s transformation begins and he attacks Sam.  Sam is able to knock him out for now, but hopefully someone has a cure for him.  Either way, it’s always nice to see a familiar face on Supernatural.

2

“So if you’re not gonna give it to me…kill me.”

After Michael destroys the egg, there is only one weapon left that we know will harm Michael.  Dean tracks down other Kaia, who is not about to let her spear go without a fight.  Dean reasons with her and asks for her help and Kaia agrees.  Kaia wants something in return; however, and asks for Jack to open the door again so that she can return to her world.  Dean agrees without hesitation, even though we know that Jack has lost his powers, but I guess it’s one crisis at a time for now.

1

“Impossible odds…feels like home.”

After we learn that Michael’s plan is to turn every single person in Kansas City, our favorite characters are ready to face him and stop him once and for all.  Dean valiantly fights against Michael with the spear, but Michael knows exactly what he is doing.  In a twist, Michael possesses Dean again and destroys the spear.  He explains that he wanted to bury Dean and destroy every last inch of his hope.  Dean is gone and Michael now has an army waiting and ready for Michael’s signal, which is Dean snapping his fingers.  We will have to wait until January 17th for new episodes, but I am slightly disappointed that we are back to the possession story-line again.  While I knew that there had to be a reason for Michael letting Dean go, I feel like this has already been done.  It looks like Sam, Castiel, and Jack will need to tap into Dean’s mind to free him somehow, but I’m not that invested in this.  I’m hoping that we get some more campy horror fun and some screen time for Rowena and Nick/Lucifer.  Stay tuned for new episodes in the New Year!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 8: “Take Me”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 8, I realized that it’s important for us to tip the scale toward doing the right thing.  Whether that means sacrificing something for someone you love or just being a good person in general, you never know what’s waiting for you on the other side of hell…or the empty.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Byzantium,” Jack appears to be lost for good, but Sam is not ready to let go just yet.  Meanwhile, Castiel makes the ultimate sacrifice.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 8 are:

5

“Tonight we get loaded.”

In the beginning of the episode, Jack is gone and Sam, Dean, and Castiel handle their grief in very different ways.  Sam is really impacted by the loss, but Dean recognizes that he needs his space and later suggests that they all “get loaded” to celebrate Jack.  This leads to a heartwarming moment, as our three favorite guys all take a few minutes to let loose and remember the good times with Jack.

4

“Something’s wrong.”

After Jack’s soul leaves his body, he detects that something is very wrong.  He walks through the familiar hallways of heaven, but some kind of darkness begins chasing him.  Remember the empty?  Well it’s back and looking for another angel to claim after Castiel managed to escape its wrath.  The empty will not stop until it obtains Jack and it doesn’t care what or who it destroys along the way, which puts all of heaven at risk.

3

“You got old…”

Lily Sunder returns, only she is a lot older now, which catches Dean slightly off guard.  Sam summons her, hoping that she can help decipher Kevin’s prophet tablet, but she is unable to do so.  That doesn’t mean that she is completely useless; however, as she is able to use her magic to resurrect Jack, but it does come with a price.  We learn that a small piece of Jack’s soul will be taken, which doesn’t seem like a big deal initially, but this is Supernatural.  We know that this will play a bigger part later on, but Sam and Dean are ready to accept any potential consequences to help Jack at this point.  Lily is looking to trade and is hoping to obtain a get into heaven free card in return, but it initially seems like this is not in the cards for her.  Lily later dies when she performs the ritual and does end up getting into heaven so that she can be reunited with her daughter, which reminds us that it’s never too late to do the right thing.

2

“I’m your son.”

When Jack’s soul is on the other side, he winds up in Kelly’s “best best memories” and gets the opportunity to meet his mother, which is a really touching moment.  Kelly is so happy to see Jack, but she also recognizes that he is too young to die and panics, explaining that Castiel promised to keep him safe.  Jack is ready to return to his body, understanding that his mother will be there waiting for him, but I think that this moment was really important for Jack.  Jack has been searching for so many answers about where he came from and he finally got the opportunity to have a moment with his mother, which is something that he will never forget.  Let’s just hope that missing piece of his soul doesn’t turn him on a path of darkness and destruction…

1

“Take me.”

After we learn that the empty has returned, Castiel recognizes that this is both a threat to heaven and to Jack.  Castiel makes a dangerous deal with the empty and offers to take Jack’s place.  The empty is clearly still very interested in claiming Castiel and accepts.  Castiel is ready to turn himself over, but the empty explains that it is not ready to take him and that it will wait until Castiel is truly happy before ripping him away from everything he cares about.  We don’t know when the empty will return, but Castiel may not be able to get out of this one.  Either way, his courage is commendable and he is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good.  Jack returns to his body and is reunited with his family and Castiel is informed about Michael’s location.  What’s next for Sam and Dean?  Well they still need to track down dark Kaia and stop Michael somehow, but I’m hoping to get some more fun episodes along the way, similar to the Halloween one.  We could use some good old fashioned Winchester fun for sure.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 7: “It’s Time Together that Matters”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 7, I realized that it’s not the big moments that count the most.  It’s the memories we have and the “time together that matters,” as Jack so eloquently pointed out.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Unhuman Behavior,” Jack’s health takes a turn for the worse, as Sam, Dean, and Castiel desperately try to figure out a way to save him.  Meanwhile, Nick continues to head down a path of darkness, revealing his inner true nature.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 7 are:

5

“He was stabbed through the heart and exploded.”

Even though this episode was an emotional roller coaster for me, Castiel provided us with a laugh out loud moment to break the tension.  After Castiel determines that he cannot help Jack, he takes him to the hospital and everyone is beyond stressed about the situation.  After Dean has trouble coming up with details about Jack’s birth date, the family medical history seems like it could be handled, especially since we know that Jack’s biological father, Lucifer, is dead.  However, Castiel bluntly tells the woman at the hospital exactly how Lucifer died, which leads to some strange looks from her and Sam and Dean.

4

“His body is shutting down.”

After Jack’s hospital tests come back negative, this seems like a good sign, but the doctor explains that Jack’s body is actually shutting down and they can’t figure out why.  It is later determined that Jack needs archangel grace to survive, but it’s not like this is easy to find anymore.  Against the doctor’s recommendation, Sam and Dean take Jack out of the hospital and refuse to give up.  They are ready to use all of their resources to help him.  While they begin discussing what Jack needs, Dean repeatedly zones out during the conversation.  Does this mean that Michael is somehow still linked to Dean?  Could this be the key to helping Jack?  We’ll have to wait to find out, but there is definitely something not quite right with Dean.

3

“Is this a trick Samuel?”

Our favorite witch is back!  After realizing that they cannot help Jack, Sam calls up Rowena.  Rowena initially thinks she is there to help Dean, but quickly learns that Sam wants her to help Jack.  Rowena is not exactly thrilled about this at first since she does not have the best history with Lucifer, but Jack approaches Rowena and explains, “I’m trying hard not to be like him.”  He tells Rowena that Sam and Dean say such nice things about her as well, revealing his innocent charm.  Rowena agrees to try and help Jack, but quickly realizes that she is in over her head.

2

“I like doing these things and I don’t want to stop.”

We finally catch up to Nick in this episode and learn that he is continuing to spiral out of control.  Nick is obsessed with finding out what happened to his family, but his journey is leading him down a very dark path.  Nick seems overwhelmed by all of these feelings, but the darkness continues to win, as he brutally murders anyone he determines to be guilty.  The ex-cop reveals to Nick something about the name, Abraxas, which seems familiar to his Lucifer memories, but we don’t have too much to go on here just yet.  Later on, Nick begins to pray and reveals that he actually likes tapping into the darkness and begs Lucifer to return to him.  Nick has clearly stirred something up inside of him, but is it enough for Lucifer to re-surface?  I’m thinking that it’s only a matter of time before he makes himself known.

1

“It’s time together that matters.”

Jack has accepted his fate, even though his “Dads” refuse to give up.  Jack just wants to have a chance to really experience life and Dean agrees to accompany him.  Dean teaches Jack to drive and hilariously reminds him that, “R is not for race.”  Jack really tries to be like Dean here, which is absolutely adorable and even screams out, “It’s like I’m you!”  This is definitely a heartwarming father-son moment and it looks like Dean needed this just as much as Jack did.  Later on, Jack expresses a desire to go fishing with Dean and tells him that he remembers that it is one of Dean’s fondest memories with his own father.  Jack opens up to Dean here and really gives us all an important lesson about life when he explains that it’s about the time together that truly matters.  After the Serbian Shaman’s “experiment” fails, Jack is in even worse condition and Sam, Dean, and Castiel are completely helpless.  They stay by Jack’s side to support him, but is there any other way to save him?  Let’s hope so because I can’t bear to see Jack go.  He has made such an impact on everyone and they truly think of him as a son.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 6: “Pie Is Important”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 6, I learned that it’s really never easy to give “the talk,” but Dean somehow manages to give the Cliff Notes version, while also reminding us about the importance of pie along the way.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Optimism,” Dean agrees to take Jack out on a case and Jack learns about “courting.”  Meanwhile, Sam and other Charlie work together in Tennessee and Sam tries to help her open up to him.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 6 are:

5

“Nobody comes to the library anymore.”

So sad, right?  In the beginning of the episode, we meet a young woman named Harper.  Harper seems to have a natural glow of positivism around her and she absolutely adores surrounding herself with books.  A girl after my own heart.  Only this is Supernatural and we know that something is about to go horribly wrong.  After agreeing to dinner, her future date named Winston is brutally attacked outside the library.  It looks like someone will be on the case soon, but I have to say that I was immediately drawn in to this mystery.

4

“Maybe I’m allergic to sitting around doing nothing.”

Jack stumbles across this case and is eager to check it out.  Even though Sam has expressed some concern about Jack going out on cases, Dean agrees to let him tag along.  Jack is more than excited and explains that they can be “hunting buddies,” but clearly he has a lot to learn, as Dean reminds him not to call it that.  It looks like there is a new dynamic duo on the case!

3

“So we got creative…cool.”

While Dean and Jack go off to check out the case, Sam is in Tennessee with other Charlie and they get into a sticky situation.  During the episode, Sam tries to get other Charlie to open up to him, who doesn’t seem particularly thrilled to be out hunting, even though she is quite good at it.  Charlie doesn’t seem like she wants to talk about anything initially, but does end up opening up to Sam about the love of her life.  While it’s great to have Charlie back, I’m still having some issues connecting with her and other Bobby.  It doesn’t seem like anyone on this show really stays dead unless they end up on another show like Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but I almost wish they would bring back someone like Crowley instead.  Fast forward to Sam and other Charlie fighting some kind of bug creature and other Charlie gets some serious goo all over her, which lightens the mood a little bit.

2

“It’s a little game we play.”

After Dean and Jack try to help Harper, we learn that Harper actually comes from a line of Necromancers.  Harper has raised her high school boyfriend from the dead and they get off on playing twisted games with innocent suitors.  Unfortunately, Jack has just stepped into that role, but luckily he has Dean by his side to back him up.

1

“Pie is important.”

If you are looking to take away any lesson from this episode, it’s that “pie is important.”  Just kidding.  Jack has his first real encounter with love and panics when he realizes that he doesn’t know too much about “courting” or sex.  Dean hilariously tells him that he will give him “the talk” later, but is upset when Jack refers to him as an old man.  At the end of the episode, they are able to stop Harper’s dead boyfriend, but Harper makes it out and writes a stalker-like love letter to Jack.  Only Jack has bigger things to worry about, as Dean discovers that Jack is coughing blood and ends up unconscious.  What’s wrong with Jack?  Will the Winchester brothers be able to save him?  Also, are we going to eventually circle back to Nick?  Either way, I enjoyed this episode more than episode 5 and I appreciated the unlikely partnership between Dean and Jack.  Let’s hope that they can help him before it’s too late.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 5: “Nightmare Logic”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 5, I learned that it is possible for your parents to over share even though you want them to be happy.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Nightmare Logic,” Sam and Dean are concerned about a hunter named Maggie who goes missing.  Meanwhile, sparks fly between other Bobby and Mary and more of Michael’s plan is revealed.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 5 are:

5

“We got a shot at bringing her back home.”

In the beginning of the episode, we learn that Maggie has gone missing, but Sam has incorporated some tech savvy equipment to help track her down.  Maggie was attacked by a ghoul, which is confusing to Sam and Dean, especially since ghouls don’t typically attack the living.  Either way, they are ready to track down the lead and try and help save her before it’s too late.

4

“You gotta be kidding me.”

After Sam and Dean pretend to be from the historical society to get some more information, they are in for a surprise when they learn that other Bobby and Mary have already arrived.  Sure enough they are claiming to be from the exact same historical society, but I guess great minds really do think alike.  Although other Bobby does point out that the “main office is run by bunch of idjits.”

“I’m doing what you told me to.”

Dean soon realizes that they are dealing with a Djinn, which we have seen before on earlier episodes.  Dean has had his own fair share of encounters with them and he does not take this threat lightly.  The Djinn is under the impression that Dean is still Michael and is confused, explaining that he is just carrying out his orders.  We learn that Michael is enlisting monsters to take out hunters, which puts the Winchester brothers in serious danger along with some of their closest friends and family members.  The Djinn further explains that he was promised an “upgrade” if he was able to follow through, which furthers the idea that Michael is interested in creating a world of super monsters, but what does he gain by doing so?

2

“You are not allowed to give up on me.”

Mary has a nice chat with Sam and opens up about her feelings for other Bobby.  Perhaps she is over sharing a little bit too much, as Sam seems slightly uncomfortable, but ultimately he does want his mother to be happy.  Later in the episode, the sparks continue to fly and Bobby opens up to Mary about losing his son.  While I’m still not sure how I feel about these two just yet, it would be nice for someone to get a chance at living happily ever after.  We’ll have to stay tuned to see how this unfolds, however.

1

“You did this.”

Sam and Dean are able to rescue Maggie and everyone is so excited to see them return home safely.  Dean reminds Sam, “You did this.”  Dean may not have been that impressed by Sam’s “Hunter Five-0” approach initially, but he now sees that his brother is truly making a difference.  Sam reminds Dean again that he is not to blame for Michael’s actions and we are once again set up for that plot to continue.  Overall, I was slightly underwhelmed by the episode.  Not that much happened and it paled in comparison to last week’s super fun Halloween episode.  Let’s hope that we can get back on track now and enjoy some fun times with our favorite brothers on television.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 4: “Time To Slice and Dice!”

Happy Friday TV fans!  Everyone enjoys a good horror movie marathon.  Well maybe some people more than others, but what happens when the horror comes to life?  Is it your dream come true or your worst nightmare?  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 4, Dean pretty much indicated that this is the coolest thing ever and I agree, as this has been my favorite episode so far this season.  Supernatural did what it does best, providing us with some laugh out loud funny moments with some campy horror mixed in.  More of this please!  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Mint Condition,” Sam tries to get Dean out of his funk by telling him about a case that involves toys coming to life, which immediately grabs his brother’s attention.  As Sam and Dean try to figure out exactly what they are dealing with, they both bond with a different comic book store owner and Sam finally reveals why he hates Halloween.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 4 are:

5

“Our life is a scary movie.”

In the beginning of the episode, Dean is enjoying some pizza and watching a horror movie marathon, which includes one starring “Hatchet Man” with the catch phrase, “Time to Slice and Dice!”  I have to admit that Dean was absolutely adorable in this scene, but Sam is not too impressed with Dean’s decision to stay in his room all the time.  While Dean listens to Sam, he takes this time to comment on the fact that Sam has shaved his beard.  Sam tries to get Dean to stay on track and reminds him that “our life is a scary movie.”

4

“She’s like your wonder twin.”

After Sam tells Dean about an action figure supposedly coming to life and attacking someone, Dean is in and ready for a case.  He enthusiastically says, “Thundercats…seriously!”  Sam and Dean head off to the comic book store to check things out and Dean thinks the girl owner is Sam’s wonder twin right down to her delicate features and luxurious hair.  Sam takes this time to point out the other owner in the horror section with a lollipop, suggesting that he is Dean’s double.  This joke proceeds to go even further, as both Winchester brothers spend some quality time with their “twins” and realize that they actually do have quite a bit in common.

3

“Why do you know what that means?”

Sam and Dean track down the comic book store employee who was attacked named Stuart.  Stuart is beyond hilarious, as he insists on voicing his opinions loudly to his opponent in a video game.  After trying to figure out who might have a motive to hurt Stuart, he talks about his ex-girlfriend who was into “wicca.”  When he talks about “mirl,” Dean is beyond confused and Sam explains that this means “meeting in real life.”  I laughed so hard when Dean asked Sam how he knew what that meant, keeping this episode super fun and light.  Dean suspects that a witch might be involved, but they soon find out that they are dealing with the ghost of the former owner of the comic book store who is not the biggest fan of Stuart.

2

“Unless it’s Godzilla…it’s real!”

After Dean is almost taken out by a flying chainsaw, Stuart ends up in the hospital and they decide to keep an eye on him, as the ghost is clearly targeting him.  Stuart’s best friend hangs around too and Dean starts to realize that actually do have a lot in common and are both huge fans of the “Hatchet Man” movies.  Dean explains, “I like to watch movies where I know the bad guy is going to lose,” actually shedding some light on another reason why he has been locked up in his room for so long, not ready to truly cope with what happened with Michael.  The ghost decides to possess a “Hatchet Man” animatronic and heads to the hospital, which is a thrill for Dean and his new pal.  Meanwhile, Sam bonds with the girl owner and they try and figure out how to stop the ghost once and for all and realize that they pretty much think the same way.  When “Hatchet Man” arrives, Dean grabs an ax and is ready to face his favorite horror movie villain.  Dean vs. Hatchet Man…place your bets!  This fight is absolutely hilarious, as “Hatchet Man” proceeds to press the button on his chest so that his famous catch phrases are said, which makes the battle that much more epic for Dean.  After the key-chain is destroyed, the ghost is eliminated and the threat is over, but Dean reminds us that this was absolutely awesome and I agree!

1

“Why do you hate Halloween?”

The moment we have all been waiting for is here, as Sam finally tells Dean why he hates Halloween so much.  After Sam gives Dean a pep talk on the ride back, Dean agrees to come out of his room more even though he will not be able to just erase what happened with Michael.  Now that this is resolved, Dean takes this opportunity to find out exactly why Sam hates Halloween.  After initially saying, “You don’t want to know,” Sam finally opens up and talks about a girl named Andrea he used to like and how she invited him over for a Halloween party.  Sam had been super nervous and when he had to bob for apples, he ended up puking everywhere…even on Andrea.  Sam spent the rest of the night hiding out in the woods traumatized while he waited for Dean.  Poor Sam!  Dean decides that it’s time for him to get over this and that they can dress up as a “dynamic duo” next year like Batman and Robin or perhaps Thelma and Louise, which is beyond hilarious.  Overall, this episode was extremely entertaining and I have a feeling I will continue to watch it every Halloween.  Let’s keep these episodes coming!  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 3: “You Proved That You Have The Mind Of A Hunter”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 3, Jack reminded us that you don’t need to have supernatural abilities in order to truly make a difference and save someone.  Sometimes someone ordinary can become extraordinary just by not giving up.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Scar,” Sam tries to get through to Dean about Michael’s possession, but Dean wants to race ahead to the next case.  Meanwhile, Castiel and Jack desperately try to help a girl named Laura who has been cursed by a witch.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 3 are:

5

“No people say that.”

In the beginning of the episode, Dean brings back the laughs, revealing that at least Michael did not kill off his sense of humor.  He starts describing something that is a bit like a nightmare and we initially think he is talking about the possession, but quickly learn that he means Sam’s new beard.  Sam defends his choice in facial hair and explains that some people say it looks good and Dean hilariously replies, “No people say that.”  Even though Dean has been through a lot, this is what Supernatural does best.  They know how to perfectly blend in some light fun to offset all of the drama and darkness that the Winchester brothers have to face.  It’s good to have you back Dean.

4

“Like someone stabbed you with a giant meat fork?”

After Castiel taps into Dean’s memories, Dean remembers that the thing that killed Kaia in “The Bad Place” had a run in with Michael and actually managed to injure him, leaving behind a scar that Dean is now forced to bear.  Sam and Dean decide to head off to Sioux Falls to meet up with Jody and chase down a lead.  It’s good to have Jody back.  While I’m disappointed that “Wayward Sisters” did not get picked up, Jody really elevates the show and brings a fresh perspective to everything.  Jody explains that she thought she was dealing with a serial killer here, but soon realizes that it may be connected to the thing that killed Kaia after all.  Small world.

3

“You saved us.”

Sam and Dean soon run into the hooded threat and capture her, stunned that she looks identical to real Kaia.  Other Kaia explains that she is a dream walker too and she is a sort of double or connection to the real Kaia.  She was able to see what she could and she further explains that she killed her by accident, as she was really trying to kill “the blonde one.”  We know she is referring to Claire Novak here, Jody’s adopted daughter.  As Kaia begins to open up, she no longer appears to be the bad guy and she is being hunted by vampires who are trying to take her weapon.  Michael sees the weapon as a threat to him since it was able to hurt him, but Kaia is not about to give it up without a fight.  When Sam, Dean, and Jody are under attack by vampires, Dean manages to set Kaia free and she makes the decision to save their lives, proving that there is some goodness within her.  While her existence may be complicated, it’s clear that she could be the key to stopping Michael.

2

“You proved that you have the mind of a hunter and the heart of a hunter.”

While Sam and Dean head off to Sioux Falls, Castiel has his own crisis to deal with, as he tries to reverse the curse of a witch on Laura.  Castiel explains to Jack that she has been “enchanted” and Jack hilariously asks, “Like Sleeping Beauty?”  Castiel calls up Rowena for guidance and is ready to try his best.  After casting the spell, the curse is not lifted and the aging spell speeds up, taking away Laura’s life force.  Jack is beyond devastated, as he spent some time with Laura and feels some kind of bond or connection with her.  Jack glances at her amulet and realizes that he can still help Laura.  He explains that the witch bullet may have killed the witch, but it was still keeping Laura’s life force trapped in a way.  Jack takes a chance and destroys the amulet and saves Laura.  Jack proves that knowledge really is power and Castiel is extremely proud of him and even suggests that they all go on a hunting trip together.  It seems like Jack is finally finding his place in the world without his grace, only he begins coughing up blood at the end of the episode.  Jack hides this from Castiel, but it looks like his own life may be in immediate danger.  Let’s hope that he fills in his family before it’s too late.

1

“I thought I could make it out but I wasn’t strong enough.”

After shutting Sam out for most of the episode, Dean finally opens up to his brother on the way home.  Dean explains that he just wanted to race ahead and skip to the part where he got to take down the bad guy, but recognizes that it’s not that simple.  Dean confides in Sam that he felt like he was drowning underwater and that he was constantly clawing and fighting for air.  Dean tried to be strong, but he wasn’t strong enough to defeat Michael.  Dean clearly feels guilty about everything that has happened and thinks that everything that Michael is doing is on him.  While this was absolutely heartbreaking to hear, I’m glad that Dean finally decided to open up to Sam.  Dean may not be able to resolve everything overnight, but at least he knows that his family and friends are there to support him.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 2: “Why be hunted when you can be the Hunter?”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 2, Castiel reminded us that the past is not as important as the future and where you’re going.  While he has a valid point, it’s difficult to know where you are going when you don’t really understand where you came from.  So do you seek out answers or do you keep moving straight ahead?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Gods and Monsters,” Dean/Michael leaves a trail of corpses in Duluth to lure Sam in.  Meanwhile, Jack wants to know more about where he comes from, Castiel cannot comprehend a world without Dean, and Nick’s human memories torment him.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 2 are:

5

“Maybe these people aren’t people.”

During the episode, Sam, Mary, and other realm Bobby dust off their FBI suits and head off to Duluth to investigate the string of murders they have read about.  Other realm Bobby needs to work on his FBI lingo, but it seems like they are blending in well enough for now.  They soon discover that Dean/Michael has actually been killing vampires and track down a female vampire who somehow escaped for more information.  She tells them that it’s like Dean/Michael was experimenting on them, but why?  Later on, Dean/Michael lures in a werewolf and requests an audience with her master, interested in their way of life.  Dean/Michael is fascinated that they “kill to live” and further explains that there is “a purity in that.”  He offers the werewolves the opportunity to “enhance their talents,” but what does this entail exactly?  Is Michael trying to create a whole new breed of supernatural monsters to take over the world?  What else is he after?

4

“I own you so hang on and enjoy the ride.”

Michael seems to be enjoying walking around as Dean Winchester and he has really updated Dean’s wardrobe.  First the newsboy cap and now a polished tux, which really makes Dean look even more charming…if that were at all possible.  When Michael checks out his attire in the mirror, Dean tries to fight back within his reflection, but Michael reminds him that he owns him.  At least Dean is not sitting by quietly in the passenger seat while Michael takes the wheel.

3

“All I can see is the supreme agent of evil.”

When Sam takes off for Duluth, he asks Castiel to stay behind so that Michael cannot detect him.  Castiel agrees, but realizes that he will pretty much be “babysitting” Jack and Nick.  Sam explains that it’s not babysitting, but Castiel hilariously points out, “Only in the sense that they are not infants.”  Jack has lost his grace and Nick is a complete mess, but Sam thinks that Nick deserves a real chance.  When Castiel speaks with Nick, Nick wants answers about why he allowed Lucifer to occupy his body.  Castiel explains that “you were in a lot of pain and Lucifer exploited it.”  He further reminds Nick that he tragically lost his family, who were brutally murdered, and Lucifer took full advantage of Nick’s grief in this moment.  All of the horrible memories start to come crashing back and they seem to be too much for Nick to handle.  Nick has a few moments where it almost seems like he is not in control of his body so it makes me wonder if any part of Lucifer stayed behind?  Nick later tells Castiel that he is no different than Lucifer, but Castiel takes a real moment to tell him that he regrets what he did to Jimmy Novak and his family.  Castiel has developed so much over the years and truly understands what it means to have regrets and guilt.  Later on, Nick tries to track down leads about the killing of his family and ends up taking a hammer to an eye witness, violently killing him.  Nick is out of control and has taken things to the next level.  Is he acting out on his own or has Lucifer permanently destroyed any goodness within him?

2

“I hope someday to have a little of her courage and purpose.”

While “babysitting,” Castiel has better luck with Jack, who is still feeling lost and out of place without his grace.  His research tells us that his grace can come back within a month or within a century, which means that it might be quite a while for him.  Castiel explains that he understands what Jack is going through and further tells him that Sam and Dean spent years and years of failing and winning, which allowed them to develop over the years into the hunters they have now become.  He tells Jack that patience and persistence are skills too and reminds him that the past is not as important as the future.  Jack still has a desire to find out where he comes from and visits his grandparents.  Kelly’s parents have no idea that she is dead and Jack doesn’t have the heart to tell them.  They think that Jack was a former intern of Kelly’s, but they are so happy to share some memories with him and even take out an old photo album for him to see.  In a touching moment, Jack shares that Kelly did have the baby and that she “made him feel safe and wanted.”  His grandparents even comment that Jack kind of looks like their daughter and they ask him to please tell her how much they love and miss her.  This moment was truly important for Jack because there is so much of his mother’s goodness within him.  He recognizes that his path will not be an easy one, but he is hoping to make his mother proud and I think that he is absolutely taking a step in the right direction.

1

“Sammy…it’s me.”

After watching Supernatural for so many years, it’s become routine for Sam or Dean to wind up somewhere else at the end of a season, only to then safely return by episode 2 or 3 of the following one.  Season 14 is no different, as Dean returns to Sam without Michael at the end of the episode.  Dean explains that he just left, but Sam asks why and he has a point.  Michael has been making a lot of progress using Dean as his vessel, so why would he choose to abandon him now?  We know that he has spoken with the werewolf leader and has pretty much dominated the vampires, so what has changed?  When Sam, Mary, and other realm Bobby try to fight off the monsters, they realize that traditional methods for killing them are not working.  Has Michael already created his new breed of monsters?  If so, why abandon Dean now?  Michael is extremely intelligent and he seems to plan out every move with calculated precision.  Is this a part of his plan?  We’ll have to wait to find out, but I’m happy to have Dean back safe and sound for now.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 1 season premiere: “What Do You Want?”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 1 season premiere, the wait is finally over and we get to catch up with the Winchester brothers.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  A lot happened last season, but to quickly catch you up, Michael is currently residing in Dean’s body, Jack has lost his powers, Lucifer is dead, and Bobby is alive.  Well it’s not our Bobby, it’s a Bobby from another dimension, but you get the idea.  In last night’s season premiere, “Stranger in a Strange Land,” we learn that Michael is travelling all over the world to find out what holy men want.  Meanwhile, Jack is trying to adjust to life without his powers, Sam and Castiel are trying everything to track down Dean, and Lucifer’s vessel, Nick, is still alive.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 1 season premiere are:

5

“The other one.  The better one.”

In the beginning of the episode, we catch up with Dean, or rather Michael, who is still sporting his Newsboy cap with style.  We learn that Dean/Michael has been travelling all over the world and has been speaking to holy men, asking them what they want.  Dean/Michael interrupts a man who is praying to Allah and asks him what he wants, but quickly breaks down the facade and shows him what a hypocrite he has been.  Dean/Michael explains that, “you’re lost and not worth saving.”  Michael is looking for a better world, but what extreme measures will he take to create it?

4

“I don’t understand how Lucifer could die and I could live.”

I’m not really sure either Nick, but I am excited to still have Mark Pellegrino on the show.  Seriously he’s the best.  Sam explains that he is not too sure either, but tries to see if Nick has held on to any important information that could help him track down his brother.  While Nick doesn’t seem too useful just yet, you have to wonder if Lucifer will somehow come back from the dead and raise hell.  I mean it’s not the first time he has done this.

3

“It ain’t how hard you hit, it’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

Good advice parallel world Bobby.  Jack hilariously asks him if that was Ghandi and it’s great to see that Jack hasn’t lost his unintentional humor along with his grace.  Jack has been trying to adjust to life without his powers, but it is a lot for him.  Jack desperately wants to help his friends and family and Bobby is a good mentor for him.  Bobby has been trying to train him on fighting, but Jack still has a lot to learn.  I’m confident that he will find his place sooner or later, especially since we know his heart is in the right place.

2

“There will be no new king of hell.  Not today.  Not ever.”

Sam is not messing around, as his number one priority is to find his brother.  Castiel consorts with a demon, trying literally everything to find his good friend.  The demon even jokes to Castiel, “I thought you two were joined at the everything.”  The demon holds Castiel hostage and gives Sam a call, who arrives with plenty of backup.  The demon explains that “hell is in a bit of a pickle” and he wants to make a deal with Sam.  Demons do love their fair share of deals.  Well they aren’t really fair about it, but they definitely know how to stick to a contract for sure.  The demon tells Sam that he wants the “Crowley deal” and Sam had me cheering out loud when he says, “But you’re no Crowley.”  No this demon is definitely nowhere near the level of our old frenemy, Crowley.  The threat is eliminated and Sam tells the other demons that there will be no new king of hell and that anyone who thinks otherwise will need to go through him directly.  While I appreciate Sam’s words, it got me thinking about a new potential king of hell.  We know that the demons are not going to just sit by because a Winchester told them to.  So many other characters have come back from the dead.  Is it possible that we may see Crowley again?  Fingers crossed!

1

“You got me.  You have all of us.  You have your family and we are going to find Dean and beat Michael…because that’s what we do.”

I have to admit that I have missed the Supernatural  pep talks quite a lot.  Jack is feeling defeated after he merely just got punched in the face and Castiel hilariously points out that pretty much everyone got punched in the face.  Jack is feeling useless and doesn’t know how to help.  Castiel reminds him that his grace will restore itself eventually, but that he has him in the meantime and his entire family, which is a touching moment.  Castiel, Sam, and Dean have been like fathers to Jack and they have all been influencing him and helping him discover who he is along the way.  I’m looking forward to seeing Jack’s character develop even further and I have a feeling that he will make a difference in the world without his grace.  At the end of the episode, Sam receives a call from Sister Jo and she tells him that they have a problem, revealing that she received a visit from Dean/Michael earlier.  Dean/Michael visits with a vampire and recognizes that this creature knows exactly what it wants.  Is Michael about to form an alliance with vampires?  We’ll have to stay tuned, but I’m not sure that Michael has the best intentions for his “better world.”

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Happy viewing!

I am so excited to announce that my book, The Search for Alice, is now available!  If you enjoy fairy-tale retellings, paranormal romance, horror, and mystery, then this might be the book for you or someone you know!  Thank you for taking the time to check it out and I appreciate any feedback as well.  I hope you enjoy!
