Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 episode 5: “Let’s Not Waste Another Second”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 5, I learned that repeating the same routine over and over can slowly kill you. You may not realize it right away, but it will eat away at you, stirring the loneliness within. We all need purpose and meaning in our lives and that’s exactly what John Dorie gets when he finds his “Laura” wash up on shore. Quiet nights of playing Scrabble and watching old movies transform into real and true moments, building a relationship and a love for someone else that make the loneliness fade away. But what happens when that person leaves? Will that feeling ever return or will we spend our lives trying to hold on to it while we close ourselves off to the rest of the world? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Laura,” John Dorie opens up to Morgan and we get a much needed glimpse into his past with Naomi, otherwise known as “Laura.” The episode has a calming quiet about it, as we invest ourselves into John’s life and truly empathize with him after Laura leaves, giving us a better understanding of this new character. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 5 are:

Rinse and Repeat.

In the beginning of the episode, we get a glimpse into John Dorie’s past and spend each lonely day with him. Every morning he wakes up to his singing fish alarm clock and sighs in bed, anticipating that there will not be much different from the day before. He makes himself some breakfast and sits out on his porch, taking in the view of the river and the beautiful landscape surrounding his home. Every now and then a walker washes up on shore and John eliminates the threat, as if he were handling a common pest problem. The day leads up to a solitary game of Scrabble and a re-watch of an old movie with some popcorn. While John is clearly living the simple life, the monotony and repetition doesn’t leave much to look forward to. Everything changes, however; when John finds a woman who washes up on shore. We immediately see that it is Naomi and she is badly injured. John doesn’t hesitate to bring her into his home and to save her life, letting down his guard in the process.

“You look like a Laura.”

After John helps Laura with her wound, he can tell that she is hesitant about revealing too much to a stranger. He is the perfect gentlemen and offers to sleep on the couch and decides to call her “Laura” until she is comfortable with telling him her real name. He strikes up a conversation about soup and admits to her that “it’s been a while since I had company.” It’s clear from the moment that John meets Laura that there is a spark between these two. John tends to wear his heart on his sleeve while Laura has her guard up. She initially goes through John’s place and tries to take off in his car, but he calmly tells her that all she needs to do is ask, revealing his good nature and open heart. Laura is still on edge with John, but seems to be warming up to him, slowly letting her guard down now as well.

John teaches Laura how to fish.

After going on a run to the local store, Laura asks John to teach her how to fish, recognizing the importance of knowing how to utilize the resources of the river. The two go out every day and are getting closer and closer. John reveals to Laura that “Tuesday is movie night” and she even starts to watch some films with him and play Scrabble, keeping him company and making the days that much more fulfilling. Laura agrees to help John push a car in front of the opening to the river to help keep the walkers away from his property, but is shocked when John refuses to pull a gun on the walker that gets into the car. It’s clear that John is haunted by something in his past, but is not ready to deal with it just yet.

“Doesn’t matter how many people tell you it’s not your fault. It only matters if you believe it.”

Laura reveals to John that she lost a child and bursts into tears. John gives her space but it is the first real time we see Laura truly opening up to John. She is not the only one who needs to get something off her chest, however; as John tells her the story about him being a cop and firing his gun at a robber accidentally. He tells her that it was an “intentional mistake” and was horrified when people referred to him as a hero. In this moment, it’s clear how much these two truly need each other. They have both been carrying around this guilt, unable to shake it. While Laura runs away from her guilt at every chance she gets, John stays hidden away from people. In this moment, they stop running and they stop hiding, as their worlds collide and they take some comfort in knowing that they can share their pain with the other. While John is ready to stop hiding, it seems that Laura has not been able to completely face her demons just yet.

“You may not think you’re a hero but I do.”

Although this episode is filled with an unnatural quiet, the walkers finally get through the car and make their way to John’s home. Laura and John are surrounded, as they desperately try to hold off the walkers. When Laura falls into a ditch, John has no other choice and fires off both of his guns, showing off some impressive shooting. He saves Laura and he tells her that he loves her. He gives her the other gun because he wants her to be safe and because he is afraid of what will happen if he keeps it. When John reveals his love he explains that he didn’t want her to know because he knows deep down that she is just going to leave. In a heartbreaking moment, John tells her “you’re alive. This whole world feels alive,” revealing the hope that Laura has given him. Laura does end up leaving, but leaves behind a message with Scrabble letters: I love you too. I’m sorry. While Laura clearly does love John, she is still running from her past and is unable to slow down for even a moment. After this scene, we come back to present day where John is sitting with Morgan. He breaks down and wonders what would have happened if he didn’t tell her he loved her right away and that perhaps she would still be alive. Morgan consoles him and says “waiting…that’s how you lose people.” He reminds John that they are part of the world and that they have a real chance to make a difference with Alicia, Victor, and Luciana. Like John, Morgan has been running away from his own inner demons, but now consciously makes the decision to stand by someone and to do something. Real connections are what keep us going and even though Laura may be gone, the love John has for her is something transcendent. Laura reminded John what it was like to truly be alive again and by sharing this story with Morgan, he does the same thing for him. We may not seek out connections with other people, but sometimes they show up unexpectedly at our doorstep and it’s up to us to decide what happens next. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 13 episode 22: “Sometimes Doing the Right Thing can go Wrong”

Happy Sunday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 13 episode 22, Lucifer is desperately trying to turn over a new leaf to make a good impression on his son, but is anyone really buying it? While he tries to bond with his son, Jack over forced high-fives and inappropriate discussions about his mother, it does sure seem like he’s trying. It seems like Jack is willing to give him a chance, but are we? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Exodus,” Dean is beyond happy to see his brother, Sam alive and well. However, their mother, Mary is not ready to leave her people behind, which causes the Winchester brothers to come up with a plan to bring everyone through the rift. Meanwhile, Lucifer tries to bond with Jack and Rowena makes a valiant effort to hold the rift open. My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 13 episode 22 are:

“VIP pass. I’m with the band.”

In the beginning of the episode, everyone is shocked to see Lucifer enter the camp. He tries to lighten the mood with his winning personality and reminds them that he’s here to join the team. Sam and Dean don’t want Lucifer anywhere near Jack, but Jack is curious about his father and is not ready to turn away from him until he gets some answers. While Lucifer possesses power that will come in handy in the fight against Michael, no one seems ready to jump on his bandwagon just yet.

Mary punches Lucifer in the face.

Lucifer comically asks Mary if she misses him and she responds with a punch square in his jaw. I have to admit that this was beyond funny, as Mary proves that she is a Winchester no matter what and is not going to let anyone screw with her, even if they are the devil. Mary explains to Sam and Dean that she is not going to go back through the rift because she does not want to abandon the people here counting on her. Dean is not ready to accept going back to a world without her and Sam comes up with a compromise, suggesting that they bring everyone through the rift until they can come up with a plan to stop Michael. While 25 people seem like quite a lot to bring through the rift in a short amount of time, they are willing to take this chance because they need their mother in their lives. After all, they did just travel to another dimension to save her.

Castiel vs Castiel.

After reconnecting with Bobby, Dean is concerned about the well-being of Charlie, especially when he learns that Ketch is working with her. Both Charlie and Ketch are captured and alter-dimension Castiel enters the room, ready to torture with no remorse. Castiel faces off against himself, ready to take down the threat. Alter-dimension Castiel reminds him, “we are the same” and our Castiel replies with, “yes we are,” as he takes his life with no hesitation. While this threat is taken out, we know that Michael is still lurking somewhere in the shadows, ready to make his move.

“Kids. You just gotta know how to talk to them.”

Lucifer eagerly embraces his new role as a father and puts his best effort forward to connect with Jack. After taking off to gather his thoughts, Jack explains that he is ready to listen even though Sam, Dean, and Castiel warn him not to talk to Lucifer. Jack has a lot of questions but starts with the most important one: “Why does everyone hate you?” Lucifer tries to spin his own story about why he was cast out of heaven and does mention that he has done some terrible things, but is ready to make amends. Castiel is not buying it, however; rolling his eyes at Lucifer’s over-simplifications. When Jack’s mother is mentioned, Lucifer tries to add some input and says, “Awesome lady. Lost my virginity to her.” This revelation is completely inappropriate, but Lucifer continues to try to bond with Jack, which leads to a somewhat inspiring pep talk. Jack tells Sam that he wants to stay behind and fight Michael, but Lucifer steps in and reminds him that “sometimes doing the right thing can go wrong.” Jack calls Lucifer “father” to his delight, but Sam is clearly worried that Lucifer’s influence will lead Jack down the wrong path, especially since he is so impressionable and naive.

Showdown at the rift.

Time is running out and everyone needs to make it out of the rift before it closes for good. Rowena is back in our world, using all of her strength and magic to keep it open as long as possible. As everyone starts going through the rift, Michael shows up with perfect timing. Gabriel tells Sam and Dean to leave and is no longer running away. He faces off against Michael and is tragically killed to the horror of Sam and Dean. Gabriel sacrificed himself for them, proving that he did have goodness within him. Lucifer tries to hold off Michael as well as everyone gets through the rift. Just before Sam enters the rift, he says to Lucifer, “how did you think this was going to end?” Sam rushes through the rift and leaves Lucifer behind. Lucifer is now done being a team player and strikes up a deal with Michael. He agrees to help him pass through the rift and destroy whatever he wants as long as he can be with his son. While this is not shocking in the slightest, as we know that Lucifer’s first priority is always Lucifer, he and Michael together may be impossible to defeat. Ranking the top 5 moments from “Once Upon a Time” season 7 episode 21: “We Don’t Negotiate with Villains”

After watching ABC’s Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 21 last night, Henry talks about the importance of finding one’s happy ending the right way. Unfortunately not everyone shares this belief, which we quickly learn during the first half of the series finale. While sometimes patience, hope, and good deeds can be enough to fulfill our days, some characters are not able to overcome the overwhelming sense of defeat and loneliness within them. Perhaps we all have the potential to become a villain, only we surround ourselves with people we love and things that make us happy to remind us to stay on a good path. It’s hard not to be sympathetic to those who wander off the path, however, which can lead to darkness. While these villains may not realize the damage that they are causing before it’s too late, it’s up to the heroes still existing to fight for good to prevail. And it’s also important to know when to ask for help, as none of us are in this alone. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Homecoming,” wish Rumple pays Henry a visit and offers him a deal. Meanwhile, Rogers/Nook promises Tilly/Alice that he will find a way for their own curse to be broken, Tiana/Sabine has doubts about her purpose, and Rumple takes on the greatest enemy he will ever face…himself. My top 5 moments from Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 21 are:

Wish Rumple threatens Henry.

Just as the curse is broken and everyone’s memory is restored, it seems like our happy ending is right around the corner. Only there is one more test that everyone must face in order to obtain it. Henry is beyond happy to be reunited with his wife, Ella and his daughter, Lucy, but wish Rumple takes advantage of his love for them and traps them in the wish realm. He threatens Henry and explains that he will destroy his family unless he retrieves the Dark One’s dagger and brings it to him. Henry finds reinforcements when he goes to Regina, Rumple, and Nook for help. Regina reminds him that “we don’t negotiate with villains” and talks about the importance of sticking by your family and protecting it no matter what. They decide to go into the wish realm to save Ella and Lucy, using Alice’s cracked looking glass as a portal. While they do not really know what to expect on the other side of the portal, they are ready to face whatever or whoever gets in their way, including some familiar faces.

Old friends and enemies return.

In wish realm, Henry and the others come across several familiar faces that will have OUAT fans everywhere cheering. While the end of the show is near, it’s important that we look back on all of our past friends and enemies who have shaped the show and made it what it is today. While Nook gets some help from our old friend, Ariel, other not so friendly faces are lurking behind the corner. Peter Pan warns them as soon as they get to wish realm and Cruella holds on to her fur coat, but not her hair color unfortunately, as Henry later strips the black from her hair, which is the ink he needs for the Author’s Pen. While we know more familiar faces will be surfacing in next week’s series finale, these characters are not to be forgotten, as they provide us with a reminder and a sense of nostalgia of the earlier days of Once Upon a Time.

Rumple vs Rumple.

Rumple decides to have a talk with himself. He explains that he doesn’t want to force the dagger on an innocent and is happy to hand it over to him. He thinks that wish Rumple could be the loophole he has been searching for all along. But is he really ready to make a deal with his darker self? Rumple explains that the one enemy he can never defeat is himself and is ready to get the happy ending he has been searching for. However, Rumple has a trick up his sleeve, as he uses the squid ink Ariel gave them to trap him. Rumple is ready to defeat his alter-ego, but Regina walks in and wish Rumple escapes. While we know it can’t be that easy to defeat wish Rumple, it’s important that our Rumple is taking the necessary steps to finally do the right thing after repeating his mistakes over and over. Rumple truly loves Belle but is willing to sacrifice reuniting with her if it means saving his family. This transformation reminds us that it’s never too late to do the right thing and that having people in our lives who support us can make all the difference.

“None of my wishes came true.”

Like our version of Rumple, wish Rumple has not revealed his true intentions up front. We learn that he has another agenda and it involves Henry. Henry’s emotions are running high, as he is worried about the safety of his family, clouding his good judgment in the process. He makes the rash decision to obtain the Author’s Pen and is warned by the author to use it to record, but not create. Wish Rumple has been after the Author’s Pen this entire time and uses wish realm Henry as his instrument of destruction. Even though our version of Henry turned down Rumple’s deal, wish realm Henry never had a single wish come true and is broken from this. He is desperate enough to make a deal with wish Rumple and to rewrite history. We know this can be extremely dangerous and it’s up to our favorite heroes to put a stop to this before all of their stories are rewritten. After all, words are very powerful, but the intent behind them is what gives them their true meaning.

Tilly and Margot are ready to save the day.

Tilly/Alice gets a pain within her and recognizes immediately that something has gone terribly wrong. She and Margot/Robin go to Tiana for help. Tiana has been having doubts about her new role as a queen, but puts this aside when she stands in front of her people and asks them for help. Her words are inspiring and remind us that you don’t always have to possess magic in order to make a difference. Tiana’s words are enough and a magic bean is turned over to help Tilly and Margot get to their friends to save the day. Only they need to make a quick stop first to get some help from some friends. Next stop Storybrooke! I am beyond excited for the conclusion of the series finale next week, especially since some of our favorite characters will be returning. While it’s bitter sweet to see the ending finally arrive, I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds. How about you? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 2 episode 21: “Judgment Night”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 2 episode 21 last night, secrets are revealed, unlikely heroes are born, and a sacrifice has left us on the edge of our seats. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Thirty-Four: Judgment Night,” Fangs is rushed to the hospital and his real attacker is revealed. Hermione Lodge announces a bounty award for the Black Hood and Veronica finds a file that causes her to lose faith in her father. Meanwhile, Cheryl fends off the Black Hood, Betty attempts to protect her mother, and Jughead is faced with his old enemy, Penny Peabody. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 2 episode 21 are:

“I only miss when I mean to.”

In the beginning of the episode, Cheryl opens her door and finds the Black Hood waiting for her. She doesn’t waste any time and rushes up to her bedroom. Cheryl is able to get out the window to her bow and arrow set and shows off her impressive archery skills. Cheryl’s got a crimson hood of her own and takes on the Black Hood without revealing the slightest bit of fear. Cheryl is not a scared little girl anymore, embracing the hero within her and defending herself. She calls Betty to warn her that the Black Hood is wounded and heading through the woods. Betty’s initial reaction is to run to her father, but soon learns that she may not be able to reason with him anymore, as the darkness and madness within him have fully consumed his actions at this point.

“What the hell do you boys think you’re doing to my school?”

After Fangs is shot, the Serpents are looking for vengeance and decide to destroy school property to make their point. Archie attempts to get them to stop and reveals the new information that Midge’s mother is responsible for shooting Fangs, unable to process her grief and looking for someone to blame. While one can be sympathetic toward Midge’s mother, the Serpents do not back down, as they explain that this is further proof why they need to destroy everything on the Northside. Archie is ready to defend, but there is no need to do so when Principal Weatherbee proves to be someone you do not want to mess with, especially when he has a baseball bat. Let’s hear it for the adults of Riverdale! Later on, the Ghoulies show up at Pop’s Diner and surround the place, leaving poor Archie alone again to try and stop them. Luckily, it’s “Riverdale Dads to the rescue,” as Kevin so eloquently put it, when Sheriff Keller, Fred, and FP show up to defend their town. I mean seriously Archie cannot take on every single threat, but it’s great to see some teamwork here even when Riverdale is being threatened left and right.

“Chaos is good for us.”

As things get worse in Riverdale, Mr. Lodge sees this as an opportunity, proving to once again be the most dangerous player in town. Hermione has her suspicions and asks if he is keeping anything from her, but he assures her that everything he is doing is for her and Veronica. Hermione announces a one million dollar bounty for whoever can deliver the Black Hood and Betty hilariously asks if that is even legal. Veronica takes it a step further when she asks, “Are you and Daddy trying to turn Riverdale into Gotham City?” Her suspicions cause her to take action and she discovers the hidden file her father is keeping on Fred, which includes a story he is about to leak, revealing the affair between Hermione and Fred. Veronica is appalled that her father could do this to his own wife’s reputation, but Mr. Lodge will stop at nothing to damage Fred’s campaign. As if this wasn’t enough drama for the Lodge family to deal with, Poppa Poutine’s son shows up looking for someone to blame for his father’s death and knocks on the Lodge door. He takes out Andre and attacks Veronica and Hermione, looking to take away the people that Mr. Lodge cares about the most to even the score. Another unlikely hero emerges when Hermione tells her daughter to run and she gets to her gun in time to stop this man, protecting her family. When Mr. Lodge shows up, he tries to tell them both how sorry he is, but Veronica doesn’t want to hear it. She backs away from her father as if he is a stranger and tells him, “It’s your mess daddy. You clean it up.”

“I always knew you were a mama’s boy.”

While fans everywhere have accepted that Hal Cooper is the real Black Hood, we have been waiting for some solid evidence. Well it’s finally arrived as Hal is no longer hiding his identity. After Cheryl wounds him, he leaves the hospital, but not before killing a doctor in his way. Betty realizes that the monster within Hal is no longer thinking rationally and worries for her mother’s safety when he threatens her. Betty rushes home and Hal tells his daughter and wife that he wants to show them a home movie. Alice is immediately confused, as Betty’s suspicions have now become a reality. A killer is born during the film, as we see Hal as a young boy speaking to his mother about why he has to lie about his father killing the Conway family. His mother tells him that “sinners have to die” and that Hal “must do better.” Hal wants the conversation recorded so he can tell his story. He admits that he is the Black Hood and takes credit for all the attacks and murders he is responsible for. When asked about Fred, he mentions his adultery, focusing purely on cleaning up the sin in this town. Hal does not take credit for the shooting at the debate, however; which makes Mr. Lodge our prime suspect once again behind this crime and perhaps in the second attack against Archie and his father. When Alice and Betty realize the immediate danger they are in, Alice becomes a hero we can root for. She tries to provoke Hal to distract him and it works like a charm. After Hal tries to choke Alice, Betty knocks him out, proving once again that team Betty and Alice is a force to be reckoned with. They call the police and Hal is arrested, ending the threat that has been tearing Betty’s life apart for now. But something tells me that this is not the last we will see or hear of Hal Cooper, the Black Hood.

Jughead makes the ultimate sacrifice.

Penny and the Ghoulies are back and demand that the Serpents give up and leave so that they can take over this town. Penny takes things a step further when she holds Toni captive, demanding that Jughead pay her a visit. Luckily, Jughead brings some back-up, which is none other than our favorite archer in town, Cheryl Blossom. “Untie her you Serpent Hag!” I found myself cheering as Cheryl rescues her love, Toni, proving once again that Choni is absolutely swoon-worthy. Jughead realizes that the Serpents are no match for the Ghoulies and calls up the devil himself, Mr. Lodge. Jughead has put together all the pieces and knows that Mr. Lodge is pulling the strings here. He makes a counter offer and shows up alone to see Penny, but not before he calls Betty to tell her how much he loves her. Betty immediately knows something is wrong and calls FP who rushes off to help Jughead. The end of the episode leaves fans with a cliff-hanger that perhaps no one saw coming. FP emerges with Jughead’s lifeless body in his arms, covered in blood with his tattoo burned off. Is our main protagonist really dead? What happens now? The questions are unending, as we need to wait a very long week to get to our season finale and finally learn the fate of our beloved Jughead Jones. Let’s try to stay positive Bughead fans, but it looks like we need a miracle in Riverdale.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The 100” season 5 episode 3: “283 lives. She must be pretty important to you. She is.”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s The 100 season 5 episode 3 last night, I’ve learned that sometimes you need to make hard decisions to protect the ones you love. Whether that means putting yourself in danger, lying to your friends, or threatening the lives of 283 people to save the one person you have thought about for the last five years, you do these things to put those you love above yourself. Bellarke fans should be excited because I sure am. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Sleeping Giants,” Clarke and Madi make a run for it, but Clarke is captured by Diyoza and the prisoners from the ship. Meanwhile, Bellamy and the others investigate the foreign ship and find an unexpected surprise, while Raven makes a courageous decision. My top 5 moments from The 100 season 5 episode 3 are:

“Go to war with the army you have…not the army you want.”

The leader of the prisoners, Diyoza has proven to be strong, calculating, and somewhat reasonable. While we ultimately learn that she is responsible for leading the mutiny on the prisoner ship, it should be no surprise how she became the leader. She thinks clearly about her decisions, but is not afraid to use force to make her point. While we still have a lot to learn about her and her people, she is not taking any chances when it comes to finding out all she can from the survivors here on earth. Time will tell if we can truly trust her or not, however.

“Spare me the space lesson.”

Bellamy and the others decide to investigate the foreign ship, looking for fuel and a way to the ground. They initially think that perhaps the ship contained prisoners and the ones left are descendants, making them survivors like them, but they are in for a surprise. Raven quickly puts her technical skills to the test and they do have a real way down to the ground. Bellamy realizes that they can hear their radios and is concerned about who they are chasing, fearing it could be Octavia or someone else they left behind in the bunker. Bellamy says, “We gotta get down there now,” not wanting to abandon those still on the ground.

“If you let her go, I’ll tell you everything.”

While Clarke and Madi are on the run, Clarke is captured. Initially she does not say anything, but gives herself away when she pays close attention to the radio. When Diyoza orders for Madi to be killed on sight, she begs her not to hurt her and tells her that she will cooperate. Diyoza needs Clarke to find out what happened to the world, as she understands it is necessary to collect as much information as she can to survive here on earth. Diyoza suggests, “Let’s begin with how the world ended” and Clarke honestly replies with, “Which time?” Clarke has always done what is necessary to lead and survive, but it is clear that her love for Madi makes her vulnerable. One cannot blame her, however; as she has been alone for quite some time and Madi is all that she has left in the world. Like a mother, she is willing to sacrifice everything to save her child.

“1 down. 299 to go.”

While on board the foreign ship, Bellamy and the others realize that they are not alone. The prisoners left behind are in “Cryosleep” and they discover that they can be woken up remotely. When Diyoza realizes that the alarm was triggered on the ship, one prisoner is woken up as a security measure. It takes three of them to ultimately kill the prisoner and they discover a recording from the captain that reveals that the prisoners had taken over. Bellamy and the others are faced with a difficult decision. Do they take the lives of the prisoners on board or do they come up with a different strategy? Murphy reminds them that “Clarke died so we can live and this is how we do it.” Bellamy takes his time to make a decision, however; and works with Raven on a plan. They can tell their new potential enemies to put down their weapons or they will pull the plug on the prisoners still asleep, which gives them leverage. However, there is always the chance that the prisoners will not care about the lives of those in Cryosleep. The other problem is that someone has to stay behind to trigger the remote on the ship. Raven steps up to do the right thing, but Bellamy doesn’t want to leave her behind, still feeling the guilt from when he left Clarke behind. Raven assures him that there is an escape pod waiting and Murphy decides to stay back as well. Raven is shocked to see him and tells him that there is no escape pod, as she knew it was the only way to convince Bellamy to leave. While we don’t know how Raven and Murphy will make it out of there if everything goes according to plan, Emori successfully lands on earth and everyone has a new threat to deal with.

“283 lives. She must be pretty important to you. She is.”

So the moment we have been waiting for is finally here! When Bellamy and the others are surrounded by the prisoners, Madi saves them and immediately recognizes Bellamy. In a heartwarming moment, she exclaims, “Bellamy! Clarke knew you would come.” Bellamy is shocked and relieved to hear that Clarke is alive, but needs to focus on the current threat. Clarke is brought outside and Diyoza puts an electric collar on her that is barbaric and painful, revealing that she has a very dangerous side that you do not want to cross. Clarke is shocked when Bellamy walks up and shows Diyoza the mug from the ship, proving that the lives of the sleeping prisoners are in his hands. When Bellamy says how important Clarke is, Bellarke fans everywhere are cheering, including myself. While this may not be a shared passionate embrace or kiss, these words remind us why we root for these two to ultimately be together. Their bond is something transcendent. They fight for each other even when they think they are gone and will do whatever it takes to save the other. While we know that the threat is nowhere near over, the look in Clarke’s eyes when she sees Bellamy is one of pure hope and love. Also, congratulations to The 100 for being renewed for season 6! We will meet again!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 episode 4: “How Did You End Up Here?”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 4, I learned that some of us are born to run, but are we able to do so when we need to? When it comes to survival, there has to be something more to live for than just food, as Nick explained. Surviving becomes the everyday routine, but living is the hard part. Living with guilt, living with emptiness, and living with the growing feeling inside you that you may never connect with the one you love again. That’s the hard part. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In Sunday’s episode, “Buried,” Al asks a big question and is in for an emotional roller coaster ride, as Victor, Alicia, and Luciana talk about why one day was so important. Meanwhile, Morgan tells John that he plans to leave once Nick is buried and John discovers a painful truth of his own. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 4 are:

“How did you end up here? That’s a big question. Sometimes those are the easiest ones to answer.”

In the beginning of the episode, Al sets everything in motion when she asks the big question to Victor, Alicia, and Luciana. We get to hear about one day in particular that changed everything for each character, which lets us into their hearts and minds for just a little while. Luciana remembers heading off to the library with Nick when everyone went out looking for supplies. Luciana tried to get Nick to stay on track and focus on finding food, but he reminded her that “people need a reason to stick around and it can’t all be about food.” Nick’s eyes lit up at the idea of starting a library at the stadium. Even though it seemed like he mostly wanted to do this for Charlie, his words have a lot of truth behind them. Luciana talks about a book of maps and navigation that they came across. They decided to flip to any page randomly and that would decide their fate and where they head to next. Luciana gravely says, “I should have never opened that book.” The book opened to somewhere north, but Nick realized that the book took them to somewhere much farther than on those maps. It’s what sparked the idea to find seeds and fertilizer to replant and build up the stadium. Luciana breaks down into tears when she talks about this. Nick’s focus on re-growth seemed like a wonderful sentiment, but it is brutally destroyed when we remember that Nick is dead now at the hand of Charlie. However, that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t right all along about needing something more.

“You’re either with us trying to keep this going or you’re not.”

When Al gets to Alicia, she remembers that very same day and talks about going out to the abandoned water park with Naomi to find supplies. Naomi was the newest member to their group and Alicia was putting a lot of trust in her when they set out together. Going on the run brought them closer, but that can be a dangerous thing. After barely escaping a gruesome death on the slip n’ slide filled with walkers, they came across a stash of medical supplies which made the trip worth it. Naomi told Alicia to keep a look out and grabbed the supplies, taking off for the truck. However, she doesn’t make it very far when she realized there was no gas in the tank. Alicia remained calm when she approached the truck and shared a little about how she went off on her own for a while and that she soon discovered it was not where she really wanted to be. She offered to get Naomi gas and told her that perhaps she will come to the same conclusion. Alicia’s willingness to let Naomi go showed her that she truly understood the need to run, but she’s been down that path before and she won’t leave her mother, Madison again. Naomi ultimately came around and returned to the stadium with Alicia. They explained that they were going to set up an infirmary but Naomi warned Madison that “things are going to get worse before they get better.” She’s certainly right about that, but no one could imagine to what extent.

“You want to get to know me. This is me.”

For me, Victor’s disclosure of that day is the most resonating. Victor carried his past around him and tried to cling to the good man he was been trying to be. However, we know that it is no easy task to move forward without looking back from time to time. Victor had a car filled with supplies that he had been keeping hidden from everyone. His initial plan was to run away and survive as long as he could, but he had second thoughts. Victor spotted the “Vermont’s finest” bottle that he was saving to celebrate with Alicia and said, “I got a little reminder of what I stood to lose.” Victor brought back the truck with supplies to Madison but didn’t tell her the truth. Even though Victor had always done what he needed to do, he found himself staying with Madison to do the right thing, even if will not work out in the end. Victor had finally become the good man he had been trying to be for so long but at what cost?

“I should have convinced Madison to leave. I should have kept the car secret. We should have flipped to another page.”

While each character’s story about that day is emotional and sympathetic, this moment intertwines all three of them and reminds us that the day all results in the same outcome. Nick is dead and the guilt is all too real and heartbreaking. They all wanted to believe or stay or become a better person, but this had a consequence that can never be reversed. While we all find ourselves replaying moments in our lives, regret and grief is something that we unfortunately need to experience along the way. It can change us forever if we let it or it can remind us to hold on to the connections around us. For now, it looks like Victor, Alicia, and Luciana are ready to turn to vengeance, but is it truly the right call?

“The answers only matter if they’re the truth.”

The van pulls over and Morgan is surprised that they want to bury Nick in some random spot off the road. However, he quickly realizes that Victor, Alicia, and Luciana have another agenda, as they dig up weapons and supplies, ready to take on the Vultures. Morgan reminds them about the importance of burying Nick and suggests that they bury him by a tree since he liked to grow things so much. In a beautiful moment, Morgan places the blue bonnet flower over his grave, symbolizing that something good can still live on in a world filled with chaos and emptiness. While everyone argues about whether or not to go after the Vultures, John Dorie comes across Naomi’s pack and recognizes the gun he described in the season premiere episode. It belongs to his love; Laura who we discover is actually named Naomi. Alicia reveals that she is dead and John is distraught, as the hope that has been keeping him going for so long finally breaks. Al promises to find out what happened to her and goes off with Victor, Alicia, and Luciana, while Morgan stays behind with John. John tells Morgan that he was right about being better on your own, which is perhaps the most heartbreaking moment of all. John tried to see the good in everything around him, but his belief has been harshly shattered. Based on the preview from next week’s episode, it looks like we will get to learn quite a bit about John and Naomi’s time together, but there is another question that is much more pertinent. If Naomi is dead and the stadium is gone, where is Madison? I am desperately hoping that she is alive, but our favorite characters are dropping like flies. We’ll have to stay tuned to find out!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Once Upon a Time” season 7 episode 20: “Home isn’t a Place. It’s the People in it”

After watching ABC’s Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 20 last night, Henry’s words really described what this series is all about. “That’s the thing about stories. They’re more than words. They live inside of us. They make us who we are. And as long as someone believes that…there will be magic.” When you think about Once Upon a Time as it draws close to the series finale next week, you immediately think about believing in the impossible. The fairy tales we grew up with sparked our own imagination and creativity, shaping who we have become even if we don’t always see it. Words can be more powerful than we realize, allowing our feelings and stories to come alive across the page. Even when this series ends, the stories will live on, reminding us of the importance of taking a leap of faith when the world seems to be quite mad. It provides us with an escape that can inspire hope, love, and adventure. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Is This Henry Mills?” Regina desperately tries to get Henry to believe again but is running out of ideas. Meanwhile, Rogers/Nook and Rumple recruit Margot to help save Tilly before it is too late and the ultimate villain is revealed. My top 5 moments from Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 20 are:

“Because I can be very convincing.”

While helping Jacinda and Lucy pack for their trip with Henry, Sabine/Tiana is worried about Drew. After Lucy reveals that the back-pack is from Drew, she finds a tarot card hidden inside. Lucy immediately knows that this means that Samdi/Dr. Facilier will have an idea about what’s going on. Jacinda and Sabine/Tiana go to confront Dr. Facilier who has nothing to hide at this point, recognizing that magic is about to resurface again. He opens the closet door and reveals Drew gagged and tied up and suggests that the ladies join him. While we know that Dr. Facilier’s ultimate goal is to obtain the Dark One’s dagger, what does he have to gain by holding these characters captive? Is it merely to prevent them from getting in the way or did he have something else in store for them? It looks like we may never find out, as Dr. Facilier’s own fate is about to take a cruel twist. I wonder if he saw that coming in the cards.

“I’ve got nothing left to lose so let’s do this.”

Even though Regina is having trouble getting Henry to believe again, she refuses to give up. She turns down Gothel’s offer to join her coven and chooses the side of humanity, proving once again that the Evil Queen has shed its wickedness and has embraced what it truly means to be a hero. Even though Regina does not have magic in this world, she is not about to let Gothel win. She stands up to her and faces her, but is wounded after Gothel attacks her. While Regina may not be the hero to take down Gothel, her will to stand against her is commendable.

“I’m not like you. You chose hate. But I choose love.”

After Tilly courageously joined Gothel’s coven to protect her father’s life, she is now under some type of trance, trapped by the magic she is channeling. Rogers/Nook tells her that he will come back for her and save her and is ready to finally take a leap of faith. Rumple reveals to him that it’s all real and Rogers/Nook is finally ready to accept this and listen. When he asks who he is from the other realm, Rumple says, “All you need to know right now is that you’re a survivor…Captain.” Rogers and Rumple seek out the help of Margot, desperately hoping that she can get through to Tilly before it is too late. We learn that after each witch sacrifices all of their power to the spell, they turn into a tree in the eternal grove and it’s only a matter of time before Tilly starts growing roots of her own. Margot tries to talk Tilly out of this, recognizing that perhaps she is just having a really bad day and “maybe we can turn it into a good one.” Tilly refuses, however; and flings her in the air, shrinking her enemies into almost non-existence, as she remains trapped by the magic consuming her. When the curse is ultimately broken, Margot and Tilly remember themselves as Robin and Alice…or “Tower Girl.” When the words, “I told you we’d always know each other” are spoken, you can’t help feeling an overwhelming sense of warmth and love for these two characters. Their love for one another is so pure and good, proving that real love can truly conquer all. This reunion is put on hold, however; as Gothel still remains to be a threat. Gothel tries to tell Alice that she is like her and will not be able to defeat her, but Alice has her father and Robin by her side. She chooses love and turns Gothel into a tree, hoping that she can grow into something beautiful again and ultimately find peace. The curse is broken and Alice can finally be reunited with her father again and with her true love, Robin. Well deserved!

“Don’t you want to believe?”

During the episode, we flash to another timeline where young Henry Mills is approaching graduation and deciding on whether or not he should leave Storybrooke or stay behind with his mother, Regina. Regina has some doubts about Henry leaving, but she puts her feelings aside because all she really wants is for him to be happy. Grown up Henry is still having trouble believing, even after he witnesses all of the magic around him. Regina tries a memory potion and even digs up the “Once Upon a Time” second book from Victoria’s grave, desperately trying to help him remember who he is and what he believes in. Nothing happens after all of these attempts and it seems like Henry’s belief may really be gone forever, as he is unable to deal with the grief of losing the family he thought he had. However, Henry is failing to realize that his family has been right in front of him this whole time. Regina tries to tell him that the curse is not just a land without magic, but that they were brought to a different time, bringing time travel into the mix, and bringing me back to Lost once again. Henry looks at the adoption papers Regina left with him and decides to take a very own leap of faith of his own by calling the phone number listed. Lost fans everywhere will remember the memorable moment in the episode, “The Constant,” where Desmond makes a phone call to Penny that saves his life and helps him remember who he is. The connection he had to his love, Penny was enough to bring him back. In Once Upon a Time, Henry is about to experience something very similar. When he calls, he speaks to his younger self and provides him with some really great advice. The conversation causes his memories to come flashing back to him, as he finally remembers who he is. After Gothel attacks Regina, Henry rushes to her side and kisses her forehead, breaking the curse for good in a beautiful moment. It was true love’s kiss after all, but for the mother who sacrificed everything for him. Magic is back and so are the memories that had been hidden away for so long. Young Henry gets it absolutely right when he says that “Storybrooke will always be with me.” Not just with you Henry, but with all of us and it’s hard not to shed some tears as we approach the very end. However, even though it seems like our happy ending has finally arrived, there is one more twist left.

“Did you really think a wish realm could hold me?”

After the curse is broken, Rumple realizes that the dagger is gone and immediately jumps to the conclusion yet again that Dr. Facilier is responsible. Rumple is finally starting to realize that he may not be able to get back to Belle and he wants to focus his energy on the family he has here. He even hesitates and doesn’t kill Dr. Facilier when he has the chance and Dr. Facilier mocks him by telling him, “You’re a shadow of your former self.” Who said that words could never hurt you? Dr. Facilier is stabbed with the dagger and the Dark One is responsible. Rumple will literally need to face himself and destroy the evil of the Dark One once and for all, but is he powerful enough to do so? We know that some of our favorite characters will be returning for the series finale next week. I am beyond excited and can’t wait to see how the story finally ends. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 13 episode 21: “Beat the Devil”

Happy Friday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 13 episode 21 last night, I learned that enemies can easily become unlikely allies when they have something valuable to offer. While Lucifer may be the devil himself, his fondness for “Sammy,” helps the Winchester brothers out of quite the jam, but is everyone truly ready to make a deal with the devil? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Beat the Devil,” Gabriel’s archangel grace is tapped out, leaving only one other option on the table. Rowena and Gabriel grow closer and execute Sam’s plan to capture Lucifer so they can get back into the rift to finally rescue Jack and Mary. While Lucifer is captured, he tries to break Rowena, leading to his own ticket into the rift. A tragic moment puts Dean on edge, but he is finally reunited with his mother. This is not the only family reunion in the cards, however; as Jack comes face to face with his father, Lucifer. My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 13 episode 21 are:

“Pep talks and melodrama.”

In the beginning of the episode, Rowena attempts to cast the spell to open the rift with Gabriel’s grace, but his performance is “premature,” as it is unable to hold the rift open. Gabriel’s grace is clearly tapped out and everyone realizes that they need Lucifer to keep the rift open. While this is no one’s first option, they don’t have any other choice. While Sam, Dean, and Castiel try to come up with a plan, Rowena comically comments that they are like “the three amigos” and explains they will be a while with their “pep talks and melodrama.”

“We were just reading books.”

While they are waiting to hear the plan, Gabriel and Rowena suddenly realize that they are attracted to one another and decide to have an adventure of their very own behind the bookcase. When Sam, Dean, and Castiel return, they are beyond shocked and disturbed. While it’s clear that they were not just reading books, Dean doesn’t want to hear the details and tells them that Sam has a plan. While Gabriel later comments that he can “cross having sex with a 300 year old red-head off his bucket list,” these two actually have a lot in common. Will it be a one-time fling or is there a romance in the cards for Rowena?

“All the people I love to torture in the same room.”

Lucifer is drowning his sorrows at a bar, confiding in the bartender about his problems with his son. It seems like Lucifer is no longer concerned with heaven or hell and has focused all of his energy on Jack. After he starts to get a little woozy, the bartender is revealed to actually be Gabriel who puts his trickster skills to good use along with a “magical roofie.” After Rowena makes her entrance, Lucifer comments, “I killed you too.” The plan is a success and they hold Lucifer captive so that they can keep his grace on tap to ensure the rift stays open. While we know that it’s impossible to keep Lucifer detained forever, everyone heads into the rift and Rowena stays behind to “babysit” Lucifer.

“Step into my office.”

While Lucifer is being held captive, he puts his best effort forward to break Rowena and tries to hit a nerve. He compares her situation to the “woman staying home in the kitchen,” while the boys go to handle the real work, but Rowena stays strong, refusing to give him the satisfaction of upsetting her. When this doesn’t work, Lucifer resorts to some off key singing that is beyond annoying, but Rowena keeps her cool. Lucifer finally strikes a nerve when he brings up killing her and Rowena tries to bring him down by telling him that his son considers Sam, Dean, and Castiel to be his real family. Lucifer channels his anger and is able to break free. He wounds Rowena and she deflects him with her magic into the rift in self-defense. While this is clearly the last thing anyone wants, Rowena has second thoughts about leaving the Winchester brothers to fend for themselves and gets to work by opening her spell book to come up with something to help.

“Hey Sammy.”

When Sam, Dean, and Castiel go through the rift, they wind up in a different entrance again and need to make their way to Dayton. They help some strangers who are being attacked by starved vampires on the way and learn that the quickest way to Dayton is through a tunnel filled with these monsters. Sam is brutally attacked and dragged off, as Dean screams out to him. Castiel goes after him, but explains that it is too late and that Sam is gone. Dean is barely able to process what has just happened, but keeps on going. When he finally reunites with his mother, Mary, a single tear falls down Dean’s face, which is beyond heart-breaking. Lucifer’s entrance through the rift proves to be useful after all, as he brings Sam back to life. Sam knows that he wants something in return and is afraid to hear what he has to say. Lucifer merely explains that “I want what you already have. A relationship with my son.” Sam is initially confused by this, but Lucifer further explains that he wants Sam to tell Jack that Lucifer is responsible for saving him, so that Jack can be grateful toward Lucifer and begin to feel something for him. Sam begrudgingly accepts since the alternative is to get eaten by vampires yet again, but everyone is beyond shocked when Lucifer walks into the camp with Sam, finally getting the family reunion he was so desperately longing for. Will Jack accept him? While we know that Lucifer will come in handy in the fight against Michael, what else does he secretly have planned? The devil can never be trusted, but it looks like the Winchester brothers do not have a choice at this point. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 2 episode 20: “You’re Playing a very Dangerous Game Betty Cooper”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 2 episode 20 last night, I learned that everyone is looking for someone to blame, but they have trouble looking in the mirror, fearing that their own guilt might come rushing to the surface, shattering the image they desperately cling to. But what happens when we stop to take that hard look in the mirror? Will we own up to our mistakes or continue to take it out on those around us? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Thirty-Three: Shadow of a Doubt,” Fred and Hermione prepare for a mayoral debate that ends with a bang, Fangs Fogarty has a troubling secret that puts the Serpents at risk, and Mr. Lodge continues to be the master manipulator. Meanwhile, Betty confides in Cheryl about her fears about her father being the Black Hood and puts her Nancy Drew skills to the test once again to find some concrete evidence. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 2 episode 20 are:

Veronica practices “courting.”

After Veronica was able to convince Nick St. Clair’s father to hand over a significant amount of money for his safe return, she is beyond thrilled when the families with connections take notice of her. Veronica is to interview these young men who are all trying to make an impression so that their families can form a type of partnership with the Lodge family. Her interviews remind me of a round of speed dating, as she looks for anyone with promise and integrity. Her reading glasses are absolutely adorable, as she really tries to play the part of a powerful business woman. After finding a suitable candidate, Veronica pitches the idea to her father of partnering with the family on a casino. Mr. Lodge turns her down very abruptly and also tells his daughter that he put her money in a trust until she is ready to make mature decisions. Veronica is beyond frustrated with the lack of confidence her father has in her. While Veronica has made numerous attempts to impress her father, she finally realizes that she may never win his respect or approval. Veronica announces to Fred and Archie that she will be supporting Fred in the mayoral race now, which will clearly ruffle some feathers once her father finds out.

Betty is feeling guilty about Chic.

After Betty turned Chic over to the Black Hood, it initially seemed like the darkness within her shielded her sense of right and wrong. However, Betty is starting to feel the guilt take over, as she starts to truly accept that she is an accomplice to murder if anything were to happen to Chic. Betty hasn’t heard from him at all and when she gets a call from the morgue, she rushes down there, fearing what she may find in the body bag. While the body is not Chic’s, this doesn’t help Betty’s guilty conscience in the slightest. Betty says, “all I had to do was look in the mirror…we’re the same.” Just the thought of her father being the real killer is enough to make her sick, but Betty is not about to give up just yet.

“You’re next sinner.”

As Fred is preparing for the mayoral debate, he receives a disturbing note at his home from the Black Hood that reads, “You’re next sinner.” The Lodge family and the new sheriff come over to talk about what to do next, but Fred does not want to call off the debate. He talks about the importance of making everyone in Riverdale feel safe and that having the debate as planned will give them that sense of comfort. During the debate, Hermione doesn’t hold back at all and plays dirty when she talks about The Dark Circle group and reveals that Archie is the leader of it to make Fred look bad. While this is a sneaky move for sure, everything is interrupted when the Black Hood shows up and begins shooting. Betty is shocked when she sees her father, Hal right next to her, making her doubt her discovery for a moment. While we know that Hal must be the Black Hood, it begs the question, who is the man in the mask at the debate? It seems like Mr. Lodge will do anything to win and perhaps he is the one who sent the note to Fred to scare him and it wouldn’t be that far-fetched if he hired someone to fire the gun at the debate as well to put everyone on edge.

Fangs Fogarty, a member of the Serpents, confides in Jughead that he was hooking up with Midge but never revealed this information to the police. Jughead understands that this puts Fangs in great danger, as it makes him look incredibly guilty. Fangs is arrested, but Jughead hires Mrs. McCoy as his lawyer to ensure he has a fair shot. Meanwhile, the Dark Circle vandalizes the Southside, enraging both parties. Archie finds out that Mr. Lodge has been paying Reggie and that this was his idea, which makes him walk away from this group, focusing more on protecting his father from the Black Hood. Tempers escalate even further when Fangs is set to be released. While we know that Fangs is innocent, it’s very easy to point fingers when everyone jumps on the same bandwagon. Mr. Lodge puts his master manipulator skills to use once again when he talks to Reggie about what it means to take your own form of justice. It’s really diabolical how far Mr. Lodge will go to set his plan in motion. He clearly possesses no guilt over manipulating teenagers, continuing to pull the strings from behind the curtain. When Fangs is released from jail, a riot breaks out and Archie spots Reggie with a gun. He tries to tackle him to the ground, but the gun goes off anyway and Fangs is shot. While we don’t know yet if Fangs will be OK, this act of violence has taken a rivalry to an entirely new level, which changes everything. While Reggie is clearly to blame here, will anyone be able to reveal the true culprit behind the curtain…Mr. Lodge.

“Do you think it’s a serial killer lair and please tell me we’re breaking in?”

After Betty connects the dots and realizes that her father, Hal could very well be the Black Hood, she is determined to get to the truth. Betty decides to confide in Cheryl because she knows what it is like to discover that her father is a murderer. While Betty shares her theory, Cheryl is initially skeptical, explaining that Hal “has all the stealth of a marshmallow man.” Betty tells Cheryl that she has to be sure and that she needs to be the one to confront and stop him. Cheryl listens and gives some advice, explaining that she will need to get concrete proof. “You’re playing a very dangerous game Betty Cooper. Tread carefully cousin.” Betty agrees with Cheryl’s advice and puts her Nancy Drew skills to the test once again, as the ever so helpful bobby pin comes into play. She breaks into her father’s desk and cross references all of the Black Hood attacks with his appointments and is shocked to learn that they all match up. It’s starting to look pretty bad for Hal, but Betty realizes that the planner is not enough proof. Betty decides to test her father’s reaction and tells her family that she received phone calls from the Black Hood and that she delivered Chic to him. Hal says, “I experience it too. The darkness. It’s why we need each other.” Betty clings to these words, truly understanding their significance, as the Black Hood has constantly tried to remind her how alike they are. She takes things even further when she discovers that he is still paying for his motel, even though he has moved back home. Betty and Cheryl go there to investigate and Betty finds the Nancy Drew secret code book that the Black Hood used to send her a message. Betty knows that her father is aware of how much she loved this book and it seems like there is no other explanation. When she confronts Hal, he tries to tell her that the book was a surprise present for her, but Betty is not buying it. She tells Hal she broke in and mentions Cheryl’s name as well, not realizing that she has just put her cousin into grave danger. At the end of the episode, Betty asks her father to meet her where this all started, but we are shocked when Cheryl opens the door and finds the Black Hood waiting for her. Will Cheryl be OK? What does the Black Hood have in store for her? Will Betty be able to stop him in time? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The 100” season 5 episode 2: “You are Wonkru or you’re the Enemy of Wonkru”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s The 100 season 5 episode 2 last night, I learned that becoming a leader is harder than one thinks. It’s not about being the strongest warrior or coming up with the smartest plan, but about someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for the greater good of his or her people. The choices will never be close to easy, but someone has to make them. Octavia comes to realize this rather quickly when she is trying out her new role as “Commander,” but proves to be an unstoppable force of strength and decisiveness. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Red Queen,” Octavia’s words of “Wonkru,” which literally mean one crew, sound like a nice sentiment, but the different clans are still on edge, desperately trying to survive in the bunker and refusing to all get along. Meanwhile, Abby hears Clarke knocking on the door and Jaha accepts his final destiny, but not before providing Octavia with some words of wisdom. My top 5 moments from The 100 season 5 episode 2 are:

“Symbols matter Octavia.”

While Octavia is responsible for saving everyone in the bunker, not everyone is accepting her as their new leader. Indra is still at her side, however; and tries to remind her about the importance of symbols. Octavia wears the gear on her forehead to remind everyone that she is the Commander, but Indra’s daughter, Gaia explains that the Order of the Flame will not support a red-blooded commander. While Gaia is bound by tradition and protocol, Indra reminds her that “your real commander would have let you burn.” We are no longer in a world on The Ark or on the ground, as the bunker has brought everyone together and not by choice. Survival is at the top of everyone’s list, but we know that life in the bunker will certainly have its challenges.

Abby hears Clarke.

When everyone is in the bunker deciding what to do next, a faint knocking is heard and Abby knows right away that it is her daughter, Clarke. Marcus attempts to calm her down, but Abby will do anything to get to her daughter. They quickly discover that there is something sealing the hatch entrance, which creates a bigger problem than just getting to Clarke. There is only one hatch entrance currently in the bunker and they will not all be able to survive after five years if they are not able to get out. This is not Marcus’s first encounter with a hatch, as the Lost fan in me immediately thinks back to Henry Ian Cusick’s days as Desmond Hume, when he was living in a bunker for three years, pushing a button to save the world before the survivors from Flight 815 decide to blow the hatch door wide open. Perhaps there is an idea after all. While food rationing seems like the first step toward maintaining survival, there is also the problem of finding the appropriate equipment so that they can make it out after five years. The problems keep on coming, as Octavia and the others realize that population reduction has reared its ugly head yet again.

“We’re taking back what’s ours.”

A select few from Skaikru start to realize the inevitability of population reduction and decide to seal themselves into the farm and leave everyone else to fend for themselves. Abby tries to explain that their deaths will not be painless or quick. Rather, they will be slow and agonizing and that no one would want that guilt on their hands. Panic has led to rash decisions and Octavia must embrace her role as a leader to get back into the farm and bring some order to her people. Octavia removes the gear from her forehead, explaining that it is more of a target than a symbol. While the plan to take back the farm seems far-fetched, any plan is better than no plan.

“I think his fight is over.”

An instrumental part of the plan is for Jaha to put his engineering skills to the test and to get the door open to the farm, but we learn that he is severely injured. Jaha has dealt with his fair share of burdens as a leader, but desperately wants to be with his wife and son again. In his final moments, Jaha asks Octavia to take care of the boy he has been watching over and looks to say goodbye to his old friend, Marcus who comforts him with his prayer. “May we meet again.” Jaha’s death reminds us that his days of a leader are long over and the torch has now been passed to Octavia. But does she have what it takes to do what is necessary to lead?

“You are Wonkru or you’re the enemy of Wonkru.”

Before Jaha dies, Octavia reveals her hesitation about becoming a leader when she says, “I am not a leader…I’m a warrior.” Jaha talks to her about the decisions he made in the past, which included the decision to execute her mother when the rules were broken. Jaha tries to get Octavia to see the big picture and to “know what it takes to lead.” He explains that there is always a war and a good leader will focus on the enemy and how to stop it. Octavia finds the leader within her and knows what she must do. She tells everyone around her that “you are Wonkru or you’re the enemy of Wonkru.” Any time someone attacked her, Octavia struck them down, proving to be an unstoppable force. With each objection, she took down her enemy while repeating her words over and over again, until everyone understood that they really are Wonkru. Octavia offers the guilty the chance to fight for their freedom. “Win the fight. Save your life.” While this certainly helps with the population reduction issue at hand, what happens when someone Octavia cares about ends up in the fighting pit? We’re about to find out, as the ending scene reveals Marcus to be in that very situation.
